reverse light switch???
I have a 1500 swing axle motor and box in my beach buggy. There isn't a reverse light sender that I can locate on the gearbox- Is this something
aftermarket that can be fitted or whats the story? surely bettles had reverse lights?? (I'm really going to need this for rego!)

You could put a toggle switch somewhere...
I'm not sure if You can fit a reverse switch on a 1500 swing axle gearbox...
have a look at a gearbox that has a switch in it...
[I don't think many did have these]
there should be a plug in the gearbox to fit one...
I think they were on the LHS of the gearbox...
75 & 76 beetles should have had them...

reverse lights were standard on bugs/busses from 72 in aus, 67 in the US and type3s when they went fat chick in 70 i think
68-71 on gearboxes have the plug for it on the nose cone u just remove and fit a standard 2 prong switch
and im guessing 6 volters might cos some had remote backup spotlights fitted on the bumper

They are up the front in the nose. They are a bit awkward to get to. You should be able to get hold of a switch and put it in. There will be a plug
that you will need to undo which is awkward but do-able while in the car. You will also need to run wiring to it as well. I did it in mine it didn't
have a switch.

Hella did a kit that mounts underneath the cover under the back seat. They also did a switch that runs off the speedo cable. There is one available on
thesamba:-

fit the gearbox switch the blanking plug is in the nose cone and can be removed and fitted while the gearbox is in the car much better that the
speedo cable type as you will find you have to drive slightly forward to turn the lights off
take a positive wire off the + side of the coil and fit an inline fuse to wire the switch and lights up very easy
