Marc,
I'm not sure if this is much help. When I did my aircooled to watercooled T3 conversion to a Subaru, I put in a GM (?Commodore) radiator. There WERE a couple of tabs that had to be welded to hold the radiator, but it wasn't a big deal. I forget the model vehicle it was from (maybe '97, but very common). Price was typical for a radiator, though not of a VW radiator! A radiator repair shop may be able to look and tell you of alternatives.

I'm in the West of Brisbane (10k to CBD) if you want to have a look. ONE advantage would be that you could fill from the front OR the back. Also, I cool my ATF through the radiator that has the appropriate tank.

FWIW

dave

PS PMail me if you want to make contact.
