According to the article, it's a 1991 Australian-spec GTI owned by Liam O'Neil.

He bought it in 1997 with just 55,000 km on the clock, from a lady who had stored it while she was in Singapore for two years. When Liam bought it he took it to his cousin's panel shop, Adam O'Neil Smash Repairs, in Waterloo for some custom mods. Grill spoiler, colour VW badge, dark tail lights, tinted windows, roof aerial, etc.

This one has a stock exhaust except for a K&N air filter and 2-inch exhaust with twin DTM-style tips.

He won best modified watercooled at the 1999 VW Nationals.

He was apparently considering selling it to buy a Mk4, so it may have changed hands in the 8 years since.
