Is it illegal to cut the hair off a Horse??

Even in the Horse capital of Australia - SCONE

You would find it hard to find....

maybe its illegal nowadays...

why not use padding used by upholsterers ?

there is plenty of horse hair in Old VWs....

Steal all of the bows from an orchestra. They use horse hair. I think that Andre Reu fellow uses it for his wig as well..:dork:

Hey Raf. It's coconut fibre you want for a VW seat pad. I've got seat pads. What are you after?

Hey Brad, it is for a front bench seat so I need to get it trimmed to size. Can you post a pic mate? Is coconut fibre what was used originally or horse hair?
Cheers

high density foam from an upholster gives 100x nicer ride than the old coconut fibre matting from 40 years ago which flattens out in no time flat

its quiet amazing how comfortable standard vw seats actually are when repadded with it

Raf. Coconut fibre is what they used. What's the bench to go in? If I don't have a complete pad here that fits, I can make one up from others.
Coconut fibre seat pads work a treat with the early springing systems. It's firm enough to provide support and separate the butt from the springs, soft enough to offer some comfort and being a natural substance, allows air flow through the seat. Problem with putting high density foam in a coil sprung seat is that the stuff starts to break down after a couple of years and those springs will work their way through in no time. The foam retains heat too which makes the seat hot in summer. A foam filled seat doesn't offer support. Just cos it's soft doesn't mean it's good for your comfort and support.
Most people judge early VW and Porsche seats on their condition today, 40 to 50 years on. We've got new seat pads here and I guarantee a VW seat with new coconut fibre pads and reset springs is a very comfortable thing and should stay that way for 20 years or so.
Mercedes-Benz still use coconut fibre pads in their upper range seats today.

Have a look here: http://busnbug.com/sb_clients/busnbug/bin/busnbug_the_vw_seat.cfm?vm_key=3820...

Its going into a 356 front bench seat. No one has an "off the shelf" pad for it because it is a very rare seat. So I will need to buy the material from you and get it trimmed to size. PM me the details and cost if you don't mind
Thanks again

Raf, I'd like to see a picture of this when its done. I have a bench seat in my 356 and they are very rare indeed. I think only 273 of them were made and fitted as a special request option. I heard they were marketed to US servicemen serving in Germany during the 60's since they wanted a seat to be closer to their 'Fräuleins'

This one is for sale on Rustytubs for US$3995 unrestored:-
