the REAL Cannon Ball Run. Any Australian versions?
Been checking out some crazy video's of the cannon ball runs in the U.S. and through Europe on youtube.com
$10k entry fee, winner receives an expensive sports car of some sort.
We got this kinda Crazy stuff in Australia?

(had track racing in the above one, this is a authentic cannon ball
(Not fully street racing they say, yet the winner (first to cross the line, wins the car, so how does that work?)

they then applied a speed limit to the event/comptetitors & this then saw people in camry's etc overtaking the competitors. Or so I have been led
to believe.
Cheers

They used to do this sort of thing in the 1920's before speed limits were introduced.
Nowdays they improve the roads and decrease the speed limit, have a few cameras on the side of the road and hey presto, instant revenue.
If you can't fix it with a hammer,
you have an electrical problem....

There was the cannonball in the NT, but i know the crsh also killed 1 or 2 of the control point officals, hence it was banned.
There were a few unofiical cannonball runs up there. One of my old drivers arrange one, I think it was in motor mag jsut before they put the limit on
the highway a few years ago. He took he lambo, ferrari, and porshce GT2 up along with a heap of other guys and did high speed runs and drag. They had
spotters out etc so that they didn't do high speeds past other ppl.
I have no sympathy for my car, only the wallet that pays for it!
Go hard or go home!!!!

yeah, two entrants in the Ferrari F40 and two officials who were crushed between parked cars hit by the Ferrari. I have a mate who was standing there
and saw it all happen... not good
So, ah, maybe not much chance of any more speed events like that one...

The so called Cannonball Runs in the USA have all been unofficial with the constabulary in the various states chasing the entrants once they are
identified.
As a matter of interest the full and proper name of the original run is "The Cannonball Baker, sea to shining sea, trophy memorial dash"
It's named after the famous racing driver Cannonball Baker.

each to pay $15,000 entry fee, i get a total of $225,000....
and then budget $80,000 on the splitty for the winner.
Anyone interested :P
