Ok, finally got it lowered yesterday, dropped it one inner in the back (though it looks like more, seems to have dropped down very low maybe 15cm or so and has a more negative camber than I expected for 1 spline??? dropped 1 inner in the front. It looked to have been dropped 1 spline in the front already though I am not sure.... running with no shocks on the front atm... old brazilian shocks have had it. i also took the bump stop rubbers off (it only had one on one side anyway) is this the correct thing to do?

the back is at least 20mm lower than the front so I have a bit of levelling ahead of me.... :smirk:

also, i have suspected this for awhile but the right handside, especially at the back seems to be about 25mm lower than the left....??? when I did the rear the spring plates looked to be in the same position before and after, so i am not sure how this works :?: i am thinking about trying a 'tuning move' on the right hand side to bring it up a bit but im not sure how this will work if plates are in the same place already ?????

when disconnecting the hand brake to get the spring plate around the cable, the cable pulled down into the tunnel... i am not sure how to get it back up and through?

thoughts would be very welcome...

still havent got the floor done yet... hopefully getting it towed to Custom VeeDub and getting it replace very sooon...

new exhaust system and shocks are also on the list

Nice buy - can't go wrong with squares!

Had the same problem with mine that the right sat lower. Adjusted the other side by one notch.

progress

ok finally getting somewhere....

finally got the height to where i want it last week, so now i can get it out of the drive way  and onto the tow truck....
a little less negative camber as you can see haha

fixed the fuel leak (i think) took a couple of go's - first time the hose was too big i think...

taking it into custom veedub tomorrow and getting some work on the engine and the floor done.... :)

heres some pics of how it is sitting now

picked up some of these yesterday

http://media.share.ovi.com/m1/large/0432/6d75cc96d65e48b9934bf932efcf29c9.jpg

got them for just over a grand with 135/165 nankangs and wolfsburg caps to boot! all brand new thanks Ronnie :tu:

not sure about the 135s though, look terribly skinny! might swap them for something a bit wider was thinking some Federal FD1 165/50s

cant wait to get them on the car but will have to wait a bit longer (hopefully some time this week) as it is still at Custom Veedub and when Pete gets back from fraser...

the car will hopefully be on the road in the next couple of weeks... its had main seal done, trans out replace axles (might have to slap some short axles and tubes in there as the wheels (MWS repro brms) only have ET25 offset but should just tuck in with that negative camber!) ..... still gotta replace that passenger side floor..

plans after that are some new carbies for a bit more oomph, been looking at these http://www2.cip1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=C13%2D47%2D7341
but have restrictions due to the small space under the engine lid... any suggestions or advice would be good
have a stock 1500 (sp i think) with twin solex carbs that need replacing

cheers

got the plates without any trouble on friday! the lady didnt even come out to have a look at the car!!:dork:

heres some pics with her new shiny plates and front wheels.... back wheels arent on because i will have to either put short axles and tubes in or modify the fenders to make them fit with no rubbing.

thanks to Pete, Dave and Eileen at Custom Vee Dub for helping to get it this far!
and also my dad.;)

took her for another short drive yesterday with new wheels and 135s on. no rubbing at all with the 135s but did notice a rubbing noise coming from the back left wheel - im sure its not the tires scrubbing because i have the stock wheels on the back but thinking it might be the drum.

The engine is running well and is freakin LOUD with new Thunderbird exhaust  got some dirty looks from some elderly ladies while driving past them in the street :lol::lol:

heres some pics

Great looking square !
Check the Castle nuts on both rear dums. They work loose over time and cause the drum to wobble on the spline of the axle.
I had this problem on my last early notch. If it is left unattended for long, the spline inside the drum will wear out and the nut will continue to loosen no matter how tight you do it up. If this is the case, a good used replacement brake drum is the only option.

I hope this helps.

i had a look at the brakes today and found that the rubbing noise is something to do with the shoe on the left rear drum. tried adjusting them to make it a bit looser but to no avail (never adjusted the drums before myself - any tips would be good)..
i then took the front of the drum off and the shoes look a bit worn... not sure if that would be it:?: when turning the drum by hand it is loose but when you get about half way round it is really stiff and difficult to turn... what can i do about this?

Izac
You need to get yourself a manual. A Bentley is best, if u cant get a T3 one they have reprinted beetle ones which should be useful to you. Or a Haines and the Idiot manual by John Muir is a good read.

Your shoes maybe worn too outa round to save em.
But try this
Jack rear up. Undo handbrake cables in cab. Wind adjusting stars up firm/tight. Pump brakes a few times. Wind adjusting stars out till just touching drum. Re adjust handbrake cables so they pull evenly on both sides.

Have a cup of tea.
