Too many variables....what kind of buggy for a start!!! If it's an ugly buggy it's worth less than a good lookin' one!! Must need lots of work if
you need to spend $2000 to get it on the road......

Does it have pedigree?? Engineers papers?? Short wheel base??
An easily registered (as in eng papers and a definite proof of history) short wheel base buggy of any kind would have to be worth a 2 or 3 grand ??
Futue te ipsum!!!

Which state are in? I would want to see some paperwork, Modification paper or rego papers as a buggy.

If it was regoed as a sedan, i would be worried.
swb buggy doesn't equal sedan :P, u might be buyin urself some trouble i'd say.
Without the paperwork, its only good as a back yard bush basher mate. won't get through rwc without spending a FORTUNE!
You will have to make the entire car, including body, chassis and engine, comply to todays standards... which means pain. Cause it will be an ICV. The
bug engine alone, will have to be replaced with an engine that follows todays emission and sound requirements, means radiator fitting, ecu wiring,
fuel line plumbing for fuel injection...
and thats just the engine department!

New engine in process: 94mm p&bs, 74mm C/w chomol Crank, 35.5x39 SP heads, turbo. Wierd combo, hopeful torque monsta!

If it says sedan it may be a concern. Bit harder to get through but not impossible. Just need an engineer willing to change a few words around for
you.
but if it says TYPE: vlkswgn Model: unknown
Much easier to get past then.
A bonus is if it has the weight on rego papers. even better

Not true chris.
Any transport department will have the rego on file. You just need to find out its overal weight as last registered.
If records show its around 800 or less then you should have no drama, bit of a prob if it had the weight of a sedan when it goes for the weigh bridge
ticket before re rego as they won't come close to the correct weight of a sedan if shortened.
Also its much easier if the buggy has held rego in any state for more then 2 years at any period.

BUT.... If there is no previous rego history (QLD only keep records for 7 years) then,as Chris said, you have buckleys chance of getting it
regoed...
I didn't have to go over the weigh bridge to get mine regoed so the weight isn't relevant....in my case anyway. Sometimes you just can't beat
having the correct paperwork....

With rego history, just about floorpan and paperwork seems to be worth 3 to 5K.
Went searching when I started mine, and this was the cheapest I could find. Anything cheaper was either not really registered or done illegitimately.
found quite a few that had rego- but when I searched they we're dodgy - weights, numbers, body styles etc didn't match.
Just got mine engineered and regoed- count on at least a couple of grand extra just for this, plus the car has to be built to a much higher standard
to pass- so more dollars again.

I was told by the NSW RTA that as long as it has had previous registration for more then 2 years in any state, then all that happens is it goes to be
re weighed and a blue slip and your away. No need for engineers.
Got told this not once but on 2 occassions
But as you say. I think any government run organisation only keeps records for 7 years
