Lowering
Hi All,
Someone posted an article that showed how much you can lower your car, by turning the splines around. I've searched the forum but can't find
it. To the person that posted it can you please re-post as I'm setting up my rear suspension.

I can see by the figures that chart is not accurate, so, as it says; check what you actually get.

How do you turn the splines around. Is that something that I can do on a Sunday Morning. What is involved in doin this?

Do you have a good workshop manual? Although it's american, the Bentley is a must for any serious Dubber. Follow the instructions to remove the
spring plates - remembering to mark their position; then after marking the position of the torsion bars in relation to the frame, they can be removed
and turned. Most VW mechanics will perform this for a reasonable charge (mine did this as part of the labour charge for fitting new bushes -
something you should do at the same time,) if you are intent on doing it yourself, I'll try to dig up some old magazine articles to show you
what's involved - but, if you aren't careful when releasing the tension on the sping plates, I'm not reponsible.

You can still fit 165r15 if you reposition the springplate in the bottomed out position (without snubbers). as in, absolutely no suspension travel. My
buddy did it for a show that was 5 miles away and it looked killer. The rear apron was about 3 inches off the ground (I don't know what that is
in CM) and his header was about 1/4 inch off the ground (I'de say aout 5mm off the ground) You can do it, but I would only recommend it for show!
