beetle odometer

My odometer has stopped working on my 75L Bug,does anyone know how to fix it or anyone that repairs them .Or would it be cheaper to just buy a 2nd hand one?

there never acturate after 33+ years anyway

the gear that drives the odo is only plastic so they break and or strip over time

u'll be lucky to find a replacement gear and there a PITA to pull apart and replace
easier to get a 2nd hand one
theres always Lbug speedos on ebay

there should be plenty of 1303s "L" bug speedos about as many have been wrecked
so they are out there somewhere..

I've pulled many of the flat dash speedos apart but never one from a 1303s..
they are easy to disassemble etc...

fix it yourself... its usually the pinion gear that breaks due to the added stress of turning all the gears at the same time.
easy as to fix and you can still get em from any speedo place.
I fixed up my speedo (on a 74 bug) last year.

Whereabouts r u located?
if in melb i can help you out.

see.... air and water do mix ;)

Hi

I had the one on my sons 1303 done at St George instruments in Sydney, he also extended the KPH lines so that the 80 kph could be seen with a sports steering wheel. They are still a little hard to see.

I can get a small digtal speedo made by SPA that Im thinking of fitting in the stock speedo at the base, it has,
Acceleration timer
Standing 1/4 mile timer
Built in odometer
Built in trip meter
Maximum speed recall
Adjustable backlit lcd display
Adjustable low battery warning
Programmable button function.
Readout selectable for mph or kmh
Calibrates to any tyre circumference

Its only $225 USD

Thanks anyway Bluetopless-I am in Sydney.
I took it apart and found the 11 tooth gear on the end of the odometer shaft was split so I turned up a bush to hold it together-worked like a charm.
I could have got one from the states for $25 + delivery.

Does anyone know if you can get these 11 tooth gears on Australia?
