Wanted: reliable motor for a 74 bug

I am looking for a very reliable motor for my 74 beetle. I want to do some travelling, so an honest motor would be great. Interested in a range from 1.5L to a 2L engine. Something that will bolt straight in and turn the key

I am in Narrandera riverina 2700 NSW. So would only be interested in anything close to here. Say a max 4 hrs away.

Just another question? I have a stan pobjoy 1640 engine and a close ratio gearbox (ideal for hill climb racing). Don't really want to sell them just would like to know what they would be worth should I decide to sell them?

Welcome to AVD from a fellow riverna person .
Why not just use the 1641 engine?

Cheers Mate,

I've been looking and looking on ebay, hoping for something of a good standard to pop up. Then I was told about this site.

Seems like the place to find things.

The fuel pump is playing up so I have bypassed the pump. I have an electric pump feeding it now. I have to take the motor out, take parts off to replace it.

So if I take it out, I want to give it a good going over. That will take time, so that's why I'm looking for another :)

Yeh I know the feeling, I've got my engine out and apart at the moment. Hopefully have it back together soon
Good luck with finding another engine
