My ghia

Here's a photo of my '63 Karmann Ghia the last time I drove it at the 2003 Dubs by the Pub - the one on far left. Has about 52000 miles on it now.

I've since partly dismantled it ready for resto, but our house reno must come first. Later this year for paint I hope.

Hey Karmann54 how on earth could you let something like that go!! My cab has some bad rust but I have to hold on to it till I can restore it,the thought of letting someone else get their hands on it just doesn't come into it. Wish I had a Ghia as well, I still miss the one I had to give up in the UK and that's 20 years ago:(

Winding the clock back here to 1988 with my 1960 KG. Slammed, dechromed and moons.

First shot with original Ansa exhaust which I got rid of because I hated the note. If only I knew then what I know now. Not long after I got it on the road (check the overspray on the rears).

Taken at Valla a few months later with 1640, Bugspray, dual quietpacks, and an old Holden peep mirror.

Ancientbugger

It was pretty tough to sell the cabrio, but I had to make a choice of one or the other as we were buying a new house at the time. Real Estate ain't cheap! The cabrio although rarer needed a lot of bodywork to bring up to scratch - new front clip, new rear apron, cabrio decklid missing. It was going to cost a lot of money. 'Phoebe' the ghia is a rock solid, low mile original car. Plus my better half preferred the ghia. Life has continued to get in the way of restoring Phoebe but it will happen soon.

The guy who bought the cabrio owned a panel shop so I knew he could do the necessary work. Unfortunately he died a year or so ago from cancer or something, don't know what has happened to it.

I probably should change my user name now, I sold it 4-5 years ago!

Work has stopped for a few months as I'm in the U.S for awhile. I can't wait to get back and finish this off- she's so close!

This was a picture taken before I left while I was halfway through fitting a headliner.

Here is a photo of our 72 karmann cab after restoration with our 68 that was restored about 12 months earlier and the new beetle. The other photo is of our ghia that I will hopefully start work on this year. Have most of the parts for him in the garage now.

Yes I remember it, she's looking a bit worse for wear at the moment as I've had to use her a lot more than I'd bargained for with all this rain for the last year. A buggy is not always the form of transport in a storm:fakesniff: Maybe another little trip should be suggested for us up here on the Sunshine coast as there must be a few around.

Glen,
Tha'ts from a couple of years back.
The KG is an old resto from the 80's.
It had centreline wheels & horrible stripey Cal-look seats & door panels ( which are still there :!:)
It had been shedded for about 10 years before we bought it.
I wacked a motor in it & some new wheels; and left it at that, for now.
There's a couple of small dings on the other side & the paint needs re-doing....

What's the story behind yours?

Axelpressbutton,
Look forward to seeing yours on the roads around the Sunny Coast before too long!

Thanks Lowrider,
I'll be in-touch when I'm back in the country. I was still hoping for a look at your Ghia up close to help me out with a few details. I've got a couple of other projects sitting around in the yard back home that I'm itching to get back to also. To be honest, my projects are the things that are making me most home sick right now!
I miss my welder :(
