Paint removal to bare metal

I have a couple of guards that need to be painted and rust repaired and was wondering what is the easiest method of removing the paint on a panel to bare metal.
Preferably something that can be done in the back yard so sandblasting is not an option.
Are there sanding discs that can be fitted angle grinders for the task?
Cheers

You can buy A disc from an auto paint supplier, often called a rip & strip, looks a bit like a stiff /coarse scouring pad, very effective, good luck.

Yep, Bunnings sell a disc called a "strip it" disc..........about $15 from memory

They work very well, and it doesn't damage the metal.

Id use paint stripper...its faster and less dust. You will still need to run a wire wheel to the edges etc.

I thought about using paint stripper but I don't want to leave any residue and have any dramas down the track with paint peeling etc.
Picked up an angle grinder from Total tools this arvo for about $300 (inc sanding & cutting discs) - 1100watt 5' wheel. Metabo brand so made in Germany (Bosch is made in China these days).
Gonna be a fun weekend!!:yes::smirk:

Not all Bosch is made in China. They have a cheaper 'green' range and an industrial 'blue' range that is predominantly made in Germany, Switzerland etc.

Metabo is a very good German brand, you will have that grinder for the rest of your life.

Couldn't afford to spend $$$ on the top line products. Very happy with what I have so far.
Test run this weekend!

Be careful of too much heat, which can distort panels. the pro's are very careful when it comes to angle grinders for this job [especially a 5" orbigger], normall use a lower speed type, and still a lot of care.
