Roof racks. Any recommendations?

Just wondering if anyone can recommend a set of roof racks for an early model beetle? New type that are not to bulky. To carry a ladder or surfboard?

These old style roofrack bars from my local auto parts store are $30 brand new, painted black. The foam covering for the bars was like $10 from Clark Rubber. Great for a surfboard, not sure how a ladder would go though. I found they did hum a little when driving with nothing on them.

Be careful to make sure that what you buy clears the curve/hump of the roof okay, because some racks dont have the clearance for the side to side hump. Many racks also are aimed at cars with fairly flat rooves, so be wary of racks that require the cross members to be flat for a basket or something to fit on top. Also make sure the feet will grip onto the rails okay, Ive noticed that the gutter rail tends to lean out more on a bug, than say my old Falcon or a van, so the rack feet dont seem to fit as well as they should onto the gutter.
