That tree on the outside of the turn is a worry, especially if things go wrong under brakes.

But pretty impressive off road racing. (sorry donn)

Yeah, I was racing there, and there’s a brief 2-second shot of my buggy towards the end of the video.

Dangerous: there were trees on the outside of most of the turns, and they were all pretty worrying, especially when you drifted a little closer than you'd like, and more than a few competitors came off worse - two were taken to hospital for checkups after a particularly hard shunt, but were OK (which is more than could be said for their buggy, which is now a bit shorter than when it started).

There was some very impressive machinery there. One I know was a recent imported Jimco from the US for the princely sum of around $249K and this particular buggy didn’t get much further than about 6-7Kms from the start before the engine seized, so money’s not always the solution. In total my navigator and I reckoned we must’ve passed close to $1-mill worth of broken machinery on the first lap. On the other hand my $7K buggy went past all of them several times before a blown fan belt pulled my up on the last lap – should’ve remembered the spare, but ya live ‘n learn.
