This one is on Bill's Register, so its not new "barn find".

#6
KO 11
Chassis #
Engine #
Location DUBBO
State NSW
Original Colour BEIGE
Condition VERY POOR BODY ONLY . NEEDS PAN. FULL OF RUST

It looks worse than what cbjohn started with......but maybe someone will step up to the plate and save her. Even just saving the body would be a remarkable feat, even though most of the rest of the original car is gone.

Now there's competition!
It's all the way up to 2.25 AUD!
Where wlil it end up?

I'm sure tintdood (eBay username) would be frothing at the mouth if someone laid 500 AUD on the palm of his hand!

For some reason the previous bid has now been backed off to $2.02

Anyone who doesn't believe its possible to save a CB like KO 011, hasn't viewed cbjohn's skilled examples of resurrecting his CB. Simply unbelievable craftsmanship. Phenomenal!

John has become the new Clayton factory when it comes to reproducing CB body panels.

Looking at those panels all nice n shiny makes me wonder how cool it would look to build one out of stainless steel.

When John is going to so much trouble to build a brand new body shell , why is he mounting it on a balljoint pan ???? or is this just his test rig / roller pan

There are reasons for it . As you would know, the only difference between early and late pan is the rear body to pan mounting bkt.position.The original pan has not been rebuilt yet and I intend to use CB as a daily drive, so I prefer to sit it on the balljoint pan and IRS. On the rear member is an alternative position for welding brackets to suit the early pan...
I've used stainless steel to certain extent after realising which areas are most prone to rust.

And I don't go to any trouble...I enjoy every minute of it...

Hey CB John,

Are you going to be making a full CB body - every panel?

If so, what price would you be asking for a full complete body?

And, could you get something like this (a reproduction) licenced? I mean without any original body/chassis numbers could this be licenced?

I think the easiest way would be to by a cheap (99c) cb take the tag and restore the chassis and this would then be a restored cb and not a reproduction.

I guess I'm just wondering what a full reproduction body would cost.

It has been said, when a man truly loves his work, it is no longer work.
The joy apparent in what John produces regarding his CB, and likely every other aspect of his metal crafting business, reveals not only his amazing skill, but the joy in his heart and his soul.
Everyone should be so fortunate.
Kudos to John!

As to the KO body tag and registering it for the road with a substantially new and different body.....that is a most interesting question. Not only is the the stamped KO number under the bonnet, there is also a chassis plate with serial number.
Here is Erich Kircher's (USCB) car with shots of this plate found below the instrument panel.

http://www.manxgallery.org/gallery/albums/album529/347120_G.thumb.jpg

Here in The States, it is universally a crime to take (steal) or knowingly attach a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on another vehicle.
While I make no pretense of knowing Australian law, I would suspect basically the same rule applies.
Restoration, substantial restoration I might add, which involves replacing major percentages of the original body may or may not be problematic.
It likely would require some police verification of the original vehicle....proof of previous registrations and a visual inspection of some sort. Having a chassis underneath the body that doesn't correspond to the original manufacturing data and previous road registrations might involve some extra hoops to jump through to get it licensed for the road again. but then again, people stick Manx bodies on VW chassis all the time and get them registered, so there has to be some provision in Australian motor vehicle regulations to allow for this kind of customization.

John, how are you going to handle this?
Anyone else who has insight into how all this works in Oz, please jump in here and set us straight.

Regards,
Steve

Bone Collector,
I wasn't clear to me if you were the buyer of KO 011, or if you were at the seller's site picking up something else.
If you were the buyer, what are your grand plans for this CB?

Steve
