Yep as topic sais just on the look out for a set of chrome tinware kit or whatever (maybe someone bought one and decided not to use it)

Chrome is bad for engines
Chrome holds the heat in
VW used chrome tappet covers in Europe to help keep the engine oil hot... [Scandanavia etc]
Personally, I wouldn't use it..

mm but they woudl of been propper chrome tappet covers, unlike the shit tiwanese chrome on the shroud, i doubt it would be worse than a powdercoated
shroud that i currently have. thx vw54

ugh... the old chrome tinware debate has been flogged to death since ferdi was still in nappies
noone has come up with definitive proof that tinware colour or finish has effect on temp
all it does is direct air flow from the fan and u actually want to keep the heat in the shrouds so its blown out underneath the engine not dissapated
out into the engine bay where it will be recirculated by the fan and heat up fuel lines etc
all thats been proven is aftermarket tin is good for upping ur temps due to crappy fit and poor vane quality and placement
all i know is i run german tin thats been chromed on my 1776 and till my thermo coupler for my head temp gauge fell apart and broke i never noticed
any difference in temp
eraser, just steer clear of taiwanese aftermarket crap or u'll forever be getting cracks and living with tinware rattles
dads got aftermarket chrome tin on his trike
the shroud dropped one vane into the fan and another fell down and blocked the air to 3&4
plus the cylinder covers are continually cracking around the inlet manifold opening

You should be able to pick up good used tinware
at the many used VW parts places..
If You have any gaps in the tinware use silastic to fill the gaps
also stops rattles too...
the taiwanese stuff probably doesn't get as hot as the good stuff as the metal is so thin on it..
Stokers sideing have good used parts..

PS: I put a layer [5mm] of foam around the doghouse oil cooler and tinware to stop leaks...
