OT: anyone training for an iron distance triathlon?
Wondering if anyone else is training for a half or full ironman this year?

No not this year, raced Ironman OZ in 2000 & 2002, lost a lot of my interest in ironman when it moved from Forster to Port Macquarie (lost a lot
of history then if you ask me).
Going to try & get motivated in the next couple of years to do it one more time, I would like the kids to see me do one.
What sort of km's are you doing or going to be doing?
Cheers
Brendan

Ironman is 3.8 swim, 180.2 cycle, 42.2 run.
Had a bit of a setback a couple of months ago with a cycle crash at a race, broke a couple of ribs and a collar bone so starting slowly again
Last year at peak training prior to IMOZ (my first @ 11hrs 46min) I was doing about 26hrs a week.
Longest ride was 200klm and long run of 2.5hrs (30klm).
Aiming for IMNZ next March....in a new age group 50-55 those old
farts are bloody fast though!

One of my boys at work is a die hard Ironman triathlete.
He trains everyday and runs and rides some stupid miles, and doesn't have an ounce of fat on him.
I have done 5 olympic tri's (2x Mooloolaba & 3x Noosa), but that was a few years and many kilos ago since i did those.
Good luck to you in your training and the pending race.

mate. 2.5hrs and 30km! my god, thats 5min km's!
having never trained for a 10km let alone a 21km i ran 1:46. the first 15km in ~1:07 the last 6km took almost 40min at about 6.5min/km! haha felt like
i was running on the spot into a headwind (built like a brick wall didnt help and a blister the size of two 50c peices under my arch from a new set of
orthotics!)
dude, you are a machine! respect to you. what sort of pace do you do the run at after a swim and 200km cycle?!

Ran a 5:45 pace marathon at the end. Swim was a very slow 1hr 27min, I swim like a tractor.
Aiming for a 65min swim in March.
1:46 half was great, you must be thinking of doing the Blackmores half in Sept then.
Managed a 70klm ride on Saturday morning at Valla before the fun began.

is the swim in a pool or in the ocean?!
5:45min/km for a 41km marathon. haha. you are machine! and at 50!!
are you genetically lean? i think id have to lose another 5-10kg to run 40km competitively. knees couldnt take it. the run and swim i think would be
do able. but a 40km run to finish off must be hell?! 20km fresh was hell!

Muzza,
This year they (Forster) are having another triathlon weekend in October, enticer, mini, australian sprint distance championships & NSW Long
Course on the same weekend.
http://www.eliteenergy.com.au/forster/index.html
I'm going to do sprint distance hopefully & then do Long Course following year. This might get me motivated for another crack at Ironman.
Cheers
Brendan
