type 3 restoration in qld

The progress on my 67 squareback so far. Was stripped to bare metal. Needs the windows putting back, the interior doing and a bit of lowering...

Thanks for the feedback! The work is being done by a pro so all the credit goes to him. He doesn't particularly like Veedubs and didn't think much of squarebacks (!?) so he had to vet the car before agreeing to do the job. Having said that he is a more polite about it now.

I also have plans for the mechanics. Capacity is to be increased to 1776 with distributorless custom EFI and high ratio top gear for the motorway - it's my daily driver and I was covering 15000ks a year before it was worked on so I'm after something quicker but efficient. I will try and post some updates..

you know, usually I'd say "cut cut cut, mod it to death!".

but you know what. that's lovely. i reckon leave it mostly standard and enjoy it for what it is.

yes, looking very schmick! ive heard air ride is pretty expensive maybe a couple of thousand, but is pretty cool i must admit, if youve got the money...

or just do it the free way... mine is down 2 outers in the front and 1 inner in the back, seems to be be pretty driveable (although ive only done a few quickies around the block), as it is not registered yet (very soon hopefully!) but seems to get over speed bumps alright. i'd like to put some lower profile tyres on to get it just a bit lower...

Lower it, but don't go the air ride. In my opinion much cooler without.
But thats just me.

Absolutely awesome square though.

Yeah, air ride is definitely expensive. I like the look of low squares (or any vw!) but have to stay at a reasonable height as it will be my only car. Overall I think I will invest in the engine instead...

looks great. if you spend some money on suspension, spend it so it actually handles. air ride is good for show cars and such but a real road rocket is a different story in the handling department. A square can be setup to handle very well if you do the right things.

Very nice, especially those wheels. Any pics of the interior? I didn't used to think much of Squarebacks (or Types 3s in general), but now I want one! One day...

Thanks for the feedback... none of my work though, unfortunately. If I had done it, it would look quite different! I'm a bit worried that it is too nice for a daily driver, but I don't see the point in having two cars. The wheels were originally black but I had them stripped and sprayed grey for a bit of contrast.

The interior still needs doing so I will post some pictures once it's done. Apart from the dials below. Its a mess in there.

The interior is now finished. Not quite original but not too custom either, I think!

The interior was done by a guy in Kawana, Sunshine Coast. He came highly recommended...

Unfortunately it won't be on the road soon. I have gone over to London for a while. The car is going to come over as well, but only temporarily, its still in QLD at the moment. I considered selling it, yeah right... I will just have to ship it back again when I return! It would be wrong to subject it to the English climate for too long.

I plan a trip 'home' to Wolfsburg at some point! I will post pictures.
