Aussie VW Museum?
You get a bit of time to daydream while stopped in Sydney's morning traffic on the way to work.
VW Group Australia is really doing well nowadays and are on track to set an all-time sales record this year. It seems to me that, given their
strength, it would be a good time for them to take ownership of Australia's VW history and set up their own Australian Volkswagen Museum.
I was wondering about this in the traffic this week. If you were given the job of establishing a proper Australian Volkswagen museum, what would you
try to include in it, assuming money no object?
How about :
* The 1945 Beetle imported by the Army, found derelict in 1990 then owned by Graham Lees
* The Haenel's 1946 Beetle, now in the York Motor Museum in WA
* A Redex Trial Beetle, preferably Laurie Whitehead's 1955 winner, or Eddie Perkins' 2nd-placed car, if they exist
* Other Beetles from the Ampol and Mobilgas Trials 1956-58, if they exist
* Barry Ferguson's 1963 Bathurst Standard Beetle, if it exists. His 1967 Factory Rally Beetle, which does exist
* An Antarctica 1 or 2 replica
* Some old and new Formula Vees
* The SeaBug
* The Bathurst Chris Heyer Golf GTI
* Standard examples of a Country Buggy, 1962 1/2 Beetle, Aussie Standard Beetle, Australian Type 2, Australian 1500 Twin S, Australian Custom
Beetle
* The last Australian Beetle, the ex-Cusacks Martini Olive '76 with less than 150 km on the clock
What else can you think of?
And where would you build the official Australian Volkswagen Museum? Surely Clayton in Melbourne would be a good spot.

definitely the ferguson/ford class A bathurst winner as it was used later used by barry lloyd/stan hopwood/ron maloney to cross sturt's stony desert
and the birdsville track (when it was still wild).
george reynolds race beetle if it exists.
yes i would like to have a go at redoing the stony desert trip on the 50th anniversary in 2013.
melbourne would be the logical spot, but if not how about somewhere 1/2 way between sydney and brisbane with low humidity sort of like armidale
edit, also prob an australian 61, plus something blinged up with all the australian accessories. a section on australian tuning stuff would also be
good.
+ an ascot.

It would be nice to use the old VW factory which is slowly being demolished and renovated. It's now about 50% of what it used to be. I drive past
it everyday on the way to work and Westall Rd is pretty much running through the middle of the paddock where completed cars were parked upon
completion. If I win the lotto, what's left of the factory will be my new garage and I will embark on a mega spending spree for classic cars &
bikes to make Lindsay Fox & J Leno look like ameturs. Pigs will fly and the world will also have peace for all of mankind.

No museum would be complete without the best ever looking VW ever made. The 23 window (or is it 25?) micro Bus. The chrome finish on those classic
splitty's IMO puts them in a class of there own.
