Why does my Kombi cut out?

Recently my Kombi has just been cutting out!
It does not seem to be a mechanical thing and it is nearly always when its cold...the engine will start again straight away..and sometimes it stalls again straight away. I have had to restart 5 times before it really kicks in again on some occasions....I run twin kadrons so I have no pilot jets.or chokes my guess is a cold coil or condensor is the problem....
has anyone else experienced this ?
can anyone explain this unusual phenonemon?
i dont think it will leave me stranded but it is not a good look for the trusty VW......
I am sure you "Tech Heads" out there will solve this problems
:cry

Silver

did you have this motor last winter?
You say "it is nearly always when its cold.."
Does it do it when you have driven for a while?.... so it is hot?
Is it when you come to lights?

Does it idle smoothly or a bit lumpy now?
Any other loss of power?

Have you cleaned the idle jets?
Up'd the idle a smidgen?
Timed and points'd it?
Checked for a fouled spark plug?

Hmmmmm :alien

I does it anytime while i'm driving ,at light's first start in the morning ect. I have had this motor for nearly twelve months and it has only started doing it in the last 4 weeks or so and it act,s like and electrical fault
Can I buy some chokes to suit these Kadrons?
I haven't moved yet Dave so it's flat all the way to town!

Had a similar prob with the oval last year. Would just cut out for no apparent reason. Turns out it was the ignition switch was fried and the screw connectors were burned and all loose. Turn the key to start and it work go straght away. Found out that wiggling the key would make it miss and fart. Changed the ignition over for a good one and no more problem!

I forgot to mention that my engine will idle on a cold start with no problem so it cant be a choke thing?

nah definetiley not chokes!

sounds electrical - you got electronic ignition. BAd wire crimp to lug connection? (ask me why i am asking THAT question? )

tried jiggling your keys in the switch?
that one of Grey's sounds real possible.

I experienced a similar problem a couple of months ago and kombikim kindly helped me narrow down the problem.

Instead of driving around with a jailer's keyring full of keys, I only drive around now with three small keys and have NEVER had the cutout problem since :)

Phew, saved me heaps of investigation money by a mechanic I bet. So it must be an ignition problem I have if the keys are too heavy and swinging while driving but since it doesn't happen anymore, I'm happy to live with the workaround.

Buggar we used to use that a while ago...
think i will switch back to them

YES the key thing is a very good possibility ive seen it before as well.
Especially when you brake hard the keys swing and OFF goes the weasel.

Also checl all your wiring connections, no pre heat for the carbies could do it as well.
Maybe up the idle as Barry said for winter. check points timing as well.
