Golf Cabriolet
What would a 1991 model Golf Cab be worth unregistered?
I have spotted one at a wreckers in complete condition and it looks very tidy in appearance rust wise etc. I don't know what the mechanical
situation is but it looks ok except for a fugly bodykit and add on widened guard thingys (like on those bathurst toranas).
Im not sure what they are asking at the yard but what do these fetch registered as a comparison?
Could be a nice project

Around 1,000 Golf 1 Cabrios were imported 1990-92, and another 700 in 1994. After that they were replaced by the Golf 3 Cabrio.
All the Golf 1 Cabrios sold here in those years had that body kit.
Nice straight ones come up from time to time on carsguide.com.au and drive.com.au. Generally they are advertised for between $5,000 and $7,000. They
are a nice machine, but you'd want to find a good one.

yeah I was looking for one of these for a mate recently instead of a similar-vintage Toymaz and they seem to be around $4-6K, so without rego and with
some 'reconditioning' costs budgeted, pay no more than say $2K or you may as well get a good 'un

Great car
I used to have one the same as the picture, great little car - the only issue I had was with the fuel injectors - apparently there are two models of
injectors and I had the troublesome one - sorry cant be more specific but I would have another tomorrow if I had room. Parts supply were plentiful and
cheap enough.

It has the bodykit same as the white one but the wheel arches have some extra wide bits which look like the torana ones added onto the existing
bodykit. It looks ok in appearance but I have no idea of what condition the mechanicals are in. If it's around the 2k price it might be a goer. I
only want it for a daily driver so my notch can get looked after and have primary use of the single garage.

Just on the weekend I was at my nephews place and he showed me his first car he just bought. A 1993 Golf Karmann Cabriolet very much like the white
one pictured, but in red. One owner from new 120K km on the clock, all service books, very clean unit never smashed (I verified this for him). It is
showing it's age a bit with a couple small cracks on edges of the roof and dull paint. Private sale with RWC. Cost him $5000. His parents are a bit
shocked and were probably hoping he would buy an $800 Laser. He appreciates finer things in life, so he aimed a bit higher and will be pretty careful
with it.

I have the mark1 cab and I love it. She is definately fun to drive. My kids love it, and they all tell me they will be inheriting it. Its has the
body kit above, but not overdone. But most of all... I love the sound of the Mark1.
We've done some work on it, so it drives nicer than standard (needed it with the kids learning in her) but i'd still recommend one...even if it is
only a standard and basic model.

The only thing I could see that had been repaired was the firewall where the clutch cable come through. Looked like it had cracked and been welded. Is
this not an uncommon thing?
He has only had it for a few weeks and was able to drive it with the roof down on Sunday. He said all the girls love it and he is lapping it up. No
Commondore with moster tacho and shift light for him. It is class all the way.

You can get replacement soft tops from a guy down Geelong way for about $500. Advertises in Australian Classic Car. These are getting cheaper and
cheaper. Adam what colour is the one at the wreckers?? The 90's series had electric roofs. Early ones manual roofs. Good fun cars

It's red so it should be a fast one!
I'm gonna hold out to see how much they are askin and when I get my insurance cheque.
If it's an early one with a manual roof, even better cos I hate fixing auto electrics!! I get zapped

Notch fixed up for...........$600 would you believe! (I am using some cashola I have which is going to burn a hole in my wallet if I leave it sitting
around any longer)....
I supplied a temporary guard as I am doing some repairs to a really good one (it's bare metal at the moment awaiting a minor rust repair).
-The bonnet dent has been knocked out and the hinge put back into alignment
-The Passanger guard has been put back into it's correct place
-The inner guard has been straightened on a jig and the front end is properly aligned and all spaces are correct.
-The dent in the bumper has been knocked out
-The floorpan suffered no damage whatsoever as it is in mint condition and structuraly sound
-Any bits needing a touch up are currently in primer awaiting my next plan of either leaving as is or doing a bit more of a respray after the better
guard is fitted.
Now I have some play money
