How about those nifty intake louvers on each rear fender side?
How did that get accomplished???
Lots of fresh air......and fine Aussie dust zooming right into the engine compartment.
Love to see some pics of what that looks like!

if ur gonna keep that engine be sure to ditch that remote oil cooler and fit back a standard one

that is one of the most stupidest setups right there
unless theres a fan on the other side which i highly doubt then the oil only gets cooled when on the move at decents speeds so when stopped idling or traveling slow it wond get air thro it especially thro those pissy side louvers
and other bad point is the hot air is just gonna come staight in to the engine bay off it only to be recirculated by the fan trying to cool the engine
all original oil coolers duct air out of the enginebay underneath

looks like a good score tho

Great news on the new purchase.
If the new one is KO587 and the earlier one you purchased was KO588 is sounds like consecutive KO #s residing with the same owner.
Now that would be a first.
Fancy owning two cars that rolled off a production line after each other from over 40 years ago.
Is KO587 a beige one with rollbar, flared guards and missing a motor/gearbox located in Spalding.

No,
Did not see the Spalding vehicle. I only found out about it early last week through a fellow CB owner living in the Victorian Mallee. He had a look at it a couple of weeks ago and thought it abit overpriced. He walked away but then gave me the details for the Register..

I think he found another near White Cliffs in NSW which he is going to look at tomorrow which sounds like worse condition to KO587 but the $ are minimal.

They are still out there. Will update the Register with the new details

Have done a little research and KO0590 came off the production line at Clayton on the last day of May 1968 so both KO0587 and KO0588 would have been produced very close to the same end of May 1968 date.

I am still staggered two consecutive production numbered vehicles have the same owner.

Bill......I find this incredible too! Simply amazing.

I'm surprised the vehicle appears to be in better condition than I imagined.
Yeah, those fender flairs are a little goofy (they look to me to be cannibalized from a Bug), the seemingly intregal running boards don't do much for the look IMO, the bonnet edges look a little suspect, but overall I think it's not bad at all.
From the pics I don't see anything that would indicate serious problems with the rockers.
In the "spares" pic it looks like some useful goodies came with the deal.
Looks pretty reasonable to me.
SpLiTmEiStEr, I'm curious as to how much this purchase may have lightened your wallet?
Inquiring minds from across The Big Pond can't help but ask.
;)

Good find! Gives Graham more pics for his great pictorial project.
Please keep us up to date on the revival of this CB.

Regards,
Steve

Just love those flares. Looks like the car should be running in the V8 Super Car series.
I also see there are two snorkel holes cut in the rear firewall which someone appeared to have bogged up.( Bet you spotted these Steve)
That is a great spare parts wall you have collected. Its amazing how things get used over the years.
I am really interested in the Chassis #s for both vehicles to see how close they may be.

1,500.00 AUD = 960.58 USD
That's just an incredible buy IMO.
Not that's its perfect by any means, but for what you got in exchange, I think that might just be the CB deal of at least the decade.

Can you let me have the chassis numbers for KO 587 AND KO 588. i am real interested to see how close the two chassis numbers are given the production numbers were consecutive.

Thanks for that. If one is on a Beetle pan it may still have the compliance plate under the dashboard. The Chassis # is stamped there as well.

I appreciate your help.

Peter,
Thanks for the chasss # detail. In looking at those number I think KO 587 might be chassis # 118310130 as I saw the CB from Grenfell that was recently only Ebay for US$18K ( and did not sell) has Chassis # 118310120. It was KO 546.

This supports my thought that there was no great production plan to match chassis $s to KO #s as the vehicle went onto the production line. Consecutive KO's dont mean consecutive Chassis #s

Thanks again.

Hi All
Had a couple of productive days on the CB ("Sunny", based on the number plates & colour).Topped 36 degrees in Adelaide today so a bit of an ask to keep working instead of downing amber fluid.
Now back to bare shell: roll cage, lights, interior fittings etc all removed & packed away. Beetle guard flares have been removed & it looks great without them. Have completed removal of bolts holding pan to body & will separate the two next weekend (with Andrew's help). Can then start on cleaning up the pan. Pan halves are pretty solid. Bit of rust to cut out from LHS; couple of holes to fill but all up a great starting point for resto.
Aim is to have this car ready for the Volks Enthusiasts Club of SA's "Ratex Rally", scheduled for August 2010. When the pan is done, will shift focus to body. Need to re-profile the wheel arches to get them back to standard lines.
Will certainly appreciate any tips from any of the CB community on what to look for and pitfalls to avoid (the poor old T34 is sitting forlornly waiting for attention & can't get started til the CB is - or both of them are - completed.
Hope to be able to put a few progress shots up on the forum.

ptoome,
Welcome to the CB Forum.
You have come to the right place for info and support while doing your resto.
How about some pics of you progress?
I don't think you mentioned the KO number......I'm sure Graham would have been asking very soon about this......but I have bet him to the punch on this vehicle.

Ztnoo Steve,
What are you smokling over there in the US. Maybe it just the cold weather has got to you.
This yellow CB is the one where consecutive KO numbers are owned by the same guy- even the chassis numbers almost match. Have a read of the prior posts on this thread.

You did not beat 11Cab to the punch on this one.

BTW, It is really good to see the work being done on this yellow one and it brings another one back on the road whioch is what it is all about.

:spin:
Sorry for my faux paus.

The poster I answered was new here at the Forum......so it wasn't clear to me he was talking about the CBs in the thread.
I just assumed he was talking about another vehicle and thus my confusion.
The only thing I smoke....now.....are some small Swisher Sweet cigars I gave up the wacky stuff long, long ago.
I will be 61 on the 21st......maybe that's the problem
Fortunately for me, Obama's health care plan will fix that and I'll be dementia and Alzheimer's free at no cost to me.
