Tyres for 71 bug?
What sort of tyres should go on my 71 bug?
I've got standard rims.
I don't think low profile are an option.

He's right, 165 R15 about all you can do really, unless you change the rims.
I have a 74 with 215/65 R14 on. Smaller but wider rims then stock. Looks decent too.

155 x 15 were the original radial size for beetles
but they are just about impossible to get unless You outlay a lot of dollars for antique tyres...
165 x 15 are the size now used by most beetle owners..
so they are slightly wider than the normal sized tyre..
and are available... but usually have to be ordered in...

71 was one of the last years of 4"
after that they were 4.5"
as already stated best size to use is good ol 165s but alot of tyre places dont carry these and will bitch and moan abut having to get them
one of the manufactures pretty sure it may have been michelin have more than doubled their price on these as they class them now as vintage tyres
around the $300 each mark dont quote me on it tho
that siad ive run 185/65s on stock 4.5
thats a common size on alot of mainstream cars and the bug road really well on them
few ppl run that size on 4" with no probs but u wouldnt catch me doing it tho
i actually had a bug with 195/70 on stock rims but i call it vague in the corners to say the least
