I need the dash button, the cable and the release mech inside the fuel lid, if that is correct. The original was pulled out at some stage (stolen). I assume its a cable kind of set up? It would be great if you could help. Ive been searching for one high and low.

Cheers mate.
Thanks for looking. Do let me know if ya find it. The fuel lid release assembly and the 1/4 grills ( that funny looking half moon shaped plastic grill behind the back seat windows on the 71-72) are the two items I am having a real hard time getting a hold of. Ive seen the grills on the Empi web site but I can't find an Empi dealer in Australia.

try george at classic for the grills as thats where i got mine from. as for the fuel lid, might have one in my old body but not sure how much do you need just the door or the the whole assembly including the hole.
stay away from the empi ones as they tend to be cheap and dont fit well

I just found CVD and the 1/4 grills. Thanks barls! I can hear my credit card yelping from here!

I only need the dash button, the cable and the release button thats inside the fuel lid. The original lid is still attached but it flaps around when ever you brake or turn left. Really annoying. I have thought about sticking a magnet in there to keep it shut but I would prefer an original part.

I will probably be able to help.

My 72 beetle just got written off by a bloody red P plater, and the mechanism and stuff is possibly still all intact, My beetle mechanic is going to start salvaging the wreck for parts so if I don't need the mechanism for my new beetle I will let you know, I live in Sydney though so you will have to pay for postage and I don't know how much I'd charge as I have little idea of it's worth.

Sorry to hear that mate.

I bought one today from a Brisbane parts supplier. But aaarrrrgggggggggggg its the wrong bloody type! Fought on the Gatway for an hour and a half both ways to get home and find that out. I asked twice if they were sure it was for a 72 cause I thought it looked a little suspect. Maybe there are two different types. I will post a photo of the wrong type later tonight and it would be cool if you could check yours out if you want to let it go.The correct one for my beetle from memory has a button type arrangement under the fuel lid door as the release ,not the lever type like the one I got today.

I payed $50 for the new one, so whatever you think is reasonable is cool. I dont mind paying the shipping. I am going back in the morn to see if they have a different one.

This is the one that dosn't fit I bought today.

The red thing (single screw) above the cable is off my beetle and is the right type of reciever, off the assembly I am after. This is the bit that screws under the fuel cap door.
