your daily driver??
Just curious:
How many of you drive your air cooled VW's as your daily driver?
And how many of you prefer a modern comfortable vehicle for daily driving, and leave your VW for the weekends/fun?

my bug these days is just a fair weather weekend show pony but for a few years i drove it daily as it was my only registered car
but i must be getting old cos i gotta have my powerwindows, climate control, powersteering etc for daily use
plus the ford can be replaced in a heartbeat if anything happend to it the bug cant
its funny tho beetles and kombis and the odd type 3 are about the only 70s cars i encounter daily around here
gotta say something for good old german engineering standing the test of time

So do you guys ever miss having all those luxuries available in modern cars?
I have a dilemma... I no longer have room for two cars. I initially wanted a Beetle for weekend driving and fun, and to keep my Golf gti for daily
driving. Now that I only have one car space I don't know! To sell the Golf and buy a Bug seems like taking a massive step backwards, and even though
it would be fun at first I'd probably miss the comfort of my Golf.
Simon, by the way awesome car. Love the paint job on it, hope you get that fixed soon.

Cheers man
What do you mean miss the luxuries?
Climate control? Try quarter windows!
Power Steering? No weight in the front anyway!
Car too loud? Turn the stereo up!

I drive my Daihatsu daily but the Notch isn't registered yet, as for luxuries there's not much in the Sirion apart from the radio cassette that'd
be missing in the notch.

Drive my 56 every day to uni and work.
Not a huge drive (km wise) every day, but I'd rather be doing it in the dub than anything else. Even with the temp going up an up (gotta love Darwin
weather)

Drive Osama (my 71 square) every day, and on weekends as well
Wouldn't swap him for my Subie (sold it now) or got back to a toyota either. You'd be surprised how quickly you forget about the so called required
aircon, power windows, central locking etc.

I used to drive my 2003 NB Cabrio daily but then got a job in the city with a dodgey car park so parked the cabrio in the garage and bought a cheapie
Daewoo. Daewoo way to slow so sold that and bought a Polo GTI. So now Cabrio sits in the garage alongside my 1974 Bug which was fully restored last
year, both rarely get driven unfortunatly.

Well the Notch has been quite a good standby this year since giving up the daily grind of work and Sydney traffic but some 40 odd year parts started
to show fatigue. The front tranny mount being the main one.
After driving early Bugs and Type 3s from 1964 to present, I must go along with Joel and rather the modern nice bits. The VW aircooled gave way to
the bigger watercooled stuff in 1979 for the main vehicles and I've never regretted the move especially the safety features. My main concern these
days is finding parts, especially panels for early Type 3 vehicles so the less I drive it, the less chance of damage. It' still only travelled
around 60,000 km in its life since 1964.
But isn't it nice to keep the old VW dream alive!

all that still wont make me drive it daily tho
