63 wild custom notchback and safari Squareback

G,day people,
After about 15 years i've been bitten by the Bug again. A mate and I have decided to embark on a Beetle building project. Probably a 63-67 model that will sit low and look slick.
My mate hasn't played much with VW's b4 but I have tinkered a bit and am looking forward to getting dirty again. Below are some pics of my previous Dubs, the Notchback is a car I purchased in original condition for $500.00 from Rick and Neil Bates in Fyshwick, ACT in 1989.
Originally I was just going to give it a coat of paint and lower it, but a my best mate who is a panelbeater, suggested that a roof chop would look the goods. My mate worked in a shop that built a lot of hot rods and even though he had never done a chop himself, he had seen many done and offered to do it for nicks.
That was when the original plan went right out the window, we decided to go all out, seem weld the guards on, shave the gutters, remove the bumpers, smooth the dash and remove the glove box. The roof Turret was out of a XB falcon with a wind back sunroof and was big enough not to have to be split and widened making the chop a little easier.
It was a long project and I sold the car befor it was ever registered to a young guy from East Hills (Sydney) when I moved to the North Coast.
I dont know if the car was ever registered or taken to any shows but would love to find out. If you know of this car please let me know.
My other Dub was a 70 Squareback which I owned for a couple of years in early 90's. I bought it in original condition and transformed it into a bit of a Safari style wagon. Raised the suspension and put light truck tyres on it to give it a high stance. Lots of fun to drive.
Looking forward to a new project now, never lost the Bug really , just never had the time space or $ to do it again until now.
Probably the biggest change this time though will be the amount of available info around as I dont think the word Internet even existed back then. Now no more pestering busy business operators for answers.
Anyho, enough bablin on, will keep you posted on the new project as it comes along.
