Brisbane Dubbers

Firstly I have to say there are so oooo oo mnay threads it would take forever to go through them and my head is just spiinning at the ones I've read so far lol So forgive me if this is a repeat statement/question/ observation/querie :spin:

Was intending to join a club so the family can go on runs etc, thought we found one but we actually couldn't find the place on the night of the meeting and now we can't locate the website lol I tell if I was only Irish.....

Read up on another club and it didn't seem like it would be for us, so what do the rest of the Brissy dubbers do ? I like to take Chilli out and every time I do I get and give a wave to other dub drivers, and more often than not people will start a convo about the dub and their experiences.... sometimes ya wanna here them, some times it's just TMI lol

Even if there are swap meets alone, it would be fun to go along and see what we can pick up and have a look around.:)

If there are no suggestions, I'll continue to tear around the out skirts of Brisbane creating havoc :ninja:;)

Yeah, I know what you mean, there is not much going on in the north side of brisbane - so what area are you in - what beast do you drive -one of the clubs used to organise a drive-in night but hasn't been one for a while.hint hint........ There is the Gold Coast Show & Shine - swap meet coming up on 16th November - see coming events 2008 section for details. Also buggy fest 9th Nov at Nundah. Maybe we should throw around a date and venue/park and organize a bring your own food bbq for vdubbers alike. My husband and I don;t belong to any club as such but also enjoy a chat with fellow dubbers. Pam

I gave up on the club scene a looong time ago because of hidden agenda's,politics and the lack of attending(even to spectate) actual motorsport events.

I reckon clubs have their place, but they're not for everyone - particularly as a lot of Volksy owners (like probably 80%) just aren't into motorsport or even VW's all. For example I know a few Golf and Polo owners, and as much as they love their cars and think they're great and swear to buy another VW as their next car, they're just not into the whole VW comraderie thing so will never join a club, or go to a show or whatever.

I'm in VW Driver's Club Queensland... and although it's had some of the hidden agenda's and politics stuff go on in the past, it's pretty much all gone now (thankfully). What's left is a bunch of people who love VW's and like to do things as a group now and then, with a few people who like racing 'em in the mix as well. Drag racing, nav runs, motorkhana, hillclimb and sprints so far, and hopefully the list of who competes and spectates is going to keep growing... can you tell I'm one of the racer's ???

;)

If anyone's interested, the website is www.vwdcqinc.org.au. All told I reckon it's a pretty cool club - good bunch of people, some good activities, and it just generally suits me pretty well.

The main thing I think is that a club is what you make it... like the thing that makes these forums so great is the people who get on here... clubs work the same way. That's my 2c.

I thoroughly agree - VW clubs are great but you get out of them what you put in.

We should start another thread about what is good and bad about the VW clubs, and how they can be made better.

Thats opening a can of worms, as it depends on the ppl that are in the club....

To answer the orginal post, best bet is go to shows, and club meetings and find a club that suits you.

Dave & Phil are correct

It's what you put into a Club and life!

It is the same here and on other forums - a lot of people are lazy and like to sit on there bums
behind computer screens and remain anonymous.

Another requirement for Clubs is if you want concessional rego,
You are required to supply evidence of current membership with an incorporated car club.
A dating officer (or club official) of an incorporated car club or
association must inspect the vehicle to certify that it was manufactured at least 30 years
ago. This certificate which must be on club letterhead or other official club documentation
must identify the vehicle and the year of manufacture.

And of course "incorporated car clubs" are bound by rules of incorporation,
and must do some of those boring things that go on at the meetings.

And it requires effort and costs dollars to run these Clubs.

Ahhhhhhhhhh,,, I get down from my soapbox now!

Am doing little bits and peices to her that I can with a little help from my neighbour who iis also learning as he goes along lol All I can say is every time I get in her I feel at home..... Ya wanna hear something funny ? When I first got in her and drove her around I would say " Does my bum look big in this ? " lol

Will also check out all the coming events too

We live on the southside of Briisbane, SLacks Creek, and there are a few dubs here too, and everytime I see one I grin, dubs do that to ya lol Anyway thanks for the warm welcome it's much appreciated and as I walk away I'll put that lid back on the can of worms.... ;)

Drive-In night is good, except that i own a lowered 60's Deluxe Beetle and a Lowered Splitty and neither of them can park at the Drive-In's anymore :fakesniff: We just sold our Karmann Ghia and Lowlight Bay to buy our house, the Bay was our Drive-In car (he was lowered too of course, but could JUST make it in).
We arent members of any club, we have enough friends with VW's to make our own fun, and that's what it's all about!

Hmm thats a bit of a BUGger:D

We don't know anyone else with VW's and the meeting the other night with the club was good no pressure to go anywhere we didn't want to and met some nice people.

We're going to the show on the 16th with just the family and thats going to be alot fun, I think it's just nice to have something in common with people who are vw minded. :)
