What's the least favourite part of working on your dub?
Normally I am more positive but i just spent 1 hour picking out a 40 year old engine bay seal from my beetle....of course it couldn't come out in
one piece...had to come out in a thousand!
Another part I hate is wire brushing (with angle grinder) the seam sealer off the body seams around foot well, parcel tray etc....black crap
everywhere!!
Most other parts I don't mind but these two drove me nuts - what are your least favourite vw jobs?

Pedal Cluster
Anything with the bloody pedal cluster is a pain for me! Being 6'5' means I have to do the conrtorsionist act before I can hook the clutch
cable on the hook inside the tunnel whilst trying to stick a torch in there and stop my face rubbing along the floor!!

I hate changing oil. It's a bitch to remove and fit my sump guard, and I'm paranoid about stripping the studs out of the casing on the
filter plate. Has anyone even stripped out these small studs, or am I just being paranoid??? Or am I just being too paranoid about being
paranoind?
:P

I'd have to say spending a cheerful (not) week or two scraping 5 layers of old paint off a Kombi with stripper and a Paint scraper. NOT fun! |

Oil changes,
Can anyone do an oil change and get all the oil into the oil change tin, I just can't do it, I either drop the sump plug into the tin, or miss
the tin altogether.
Ive still got the mother of all oil stains from my TDI on my back path after dropping the oil and thinking it was ok walked away to let it drain and
overflowed the tin

When I get my car back from a friend who has been working on it and when he drove it over the hoist, crunched the beaver panel which means $400 in
repairs.

I'm with Jon. the gearbox is the worst. Axle boot seal replacement is the dirtiest filthiest job of all. Lying on ya back with 10 years of oily
crap fallin in your face.

anything to do with the g/box!
i replaced the drive shaft on a swing axle with the g/box still in the car - it took me 3 attempts, only to find out that i had to replace the other
side two weeks later!
well at least i had the practice - first go that time.
p.s. i hate the smell of g/box oil also |

refitting the exaust on my turbo fastback. Doesnt quite line up as good as it should, combined with the type 4 exhaust ports... frustrating. Always
get a couple of leaks.

Ok, this isn't a 'working on' problem as such. But I hate finding a large screw embedded in a tyre on a Saturday night when I want to
take it visiting on the Sunday (early)
Long trip and I'm not taking it without a spare, looks like I'm taking the ford |

Yep, I can share your pain with the gearbox hassles!!
Also trying to get out siezed door hinge screws is fun...have had to drill them out and retap in the past - something that should take 30mins can take
2 hours!

the worst things i hate is gearbox oil it smells so bad. fixing the pedal cluster and the owner has screwed self tappers in from the other side and
you always hit your head on them, same for the the rear numberplate on the boot lid. and i hate taking the original paint off my oval which is 47
years old.
