Hand brake cable length

Gday again, well have got the new hand brake cables but need to shorten them, the way I figure it if I knew a measurement between two identifyable points on a standard pan (front to back), then I would be able to check that measure on mine to figure out how much to shorten the cables. Anyone out there able to help?

yep, did that $65 per cable + shortening charge + postage or go down there to get them and I still need to tell them the length. Place in Queensland $33 the pair landed at my home and a place in Newie will shorten them for $10 per cable including the threaded fitting.
