Electrical Problems
I need help
my 71 square has a small problem when i turn the key and start the car the tail lights come on and stay on the only way to turn them of is by turning
of the ignition. The brake lights work as normal. I haven't really pulled anything apart as yet as have had no time but it would be nice if some 1
could surgest a starting point.
thanks

Sounds like you have the tail light wire connected to the ignition circuit at the fuse box instead of it's correct light fuse. Check that out.

is it just the tail lights?
or parkers and dash lights as well
that will help narrow down the problem

ok thats a strange one
cos if it was just a bridge somewhere u would get feedback that would power up everything on the parkers circuit
on all 12v beetles and so i would ASSume type3s are the same the left and right tailights are on seprate fuses so its wierd that both are coming on
yet no parkers and brake lights work fine
but then again i have seen some pretty aborted wiring jobs POs have done to cars over the years

Just a thought. Is it the tail lights OR is it the STOP lights coming on. Maybe the stop light switch stuck in the on position. If you haven't
fiddled with the fuse box and moved wires this is a possibility as the stop light circuit is activated by the ignition switch.
