Manxter 2+2 Kits in Australia - Would you buy one ?

Hi Guys,

Just looking to see what interest there is in buying a Manxter 2 + 2 kit. Cost would be about $AUD 15000 delivered to your door and would include :

  1. Fiberglass Body
  2. Fiberglass Hood with Associated Hardware & Pinchwelt
  3. Fiberglass Air Box & Gas Spring Assembly
  4. Fiberglass 2-piece Dash with Glove Box & Instrument Panel, RHD.(instruments not included)
  5. Fiberglass Windshield Surround assembled with glass
  6. Fiberglass Hardtop in Black or White with Mounting Hardware
  7. 6-point Steel Top Support System with Side Intrusion Bars
  8. Polished Stainless Steel Front & Rear Bumpers with Accompanying Bracketry
  9. Transmission Mount for Type I or Type II
  10. Lights: Headlights, Turn-Signals, License Plate Light, Taillights.
  11. Turbo Side Mirrors
  12. “Manxter 2+2” Rear Emblem & “Meyers Manx” Front Emblem
  13. Serial Number Plate mounted on body
  14. All Body Support Bracketry, Fasteners, Hood Hinge, Hood Latches, Glovebox Hinges
  15. Instruction Manual
  16. Australian Engineering Paperwork to submit to your local state authority
  17. 1-Year Complimentary Manx Club Membership or Renewal (member number will be assigned)

I am looking at potentially bringing in a container load of them.

So any interest ?

Keep in mind this is a complete kit with compliant barwork and accesories. If you want to compare it to a local kit them make sure you include everything the local kits do not come with. Also remember this is an ORIGINAL not a copy like some..

That black one looks sick !!!

VERY tempting I've gotta say... assume they're RHD versions ???

Also, just curious - how about a DualSport, or would they be too difficult to get ADR comp on ???

i'd have thought the dual sport would be a compliance nightmare unless you regoed it as an ICV. they do look nice though.

Yep RHD

Ok Dual Sports is actually a different body and comes with a custom front end which is 5" longer and wider than stock. In Dual Sports setup the tyres will never get under the guards. You can build an Offroad Manxter 2+2 which will look cool enough. For example the Baja Race car was not a Dual Sports it was a 2+2.

There is no benifit to having a Dual Sports in Australia as the suspension will never be road legal so you woul dend up with an odd looking buggy.

For example this is a 2+2 setup for offroad:

I'll be in the market for a buggy body in a little while (am currently keeping eyes and ears open for one to come along.
Some of the things I'll be looking at are requirements for Qld rebodied vw registration (as opposed to ICV) - so legalities of 6 point cage, front/rear bumpers coverage etc. Then there's the price!
You'll probably have two types of people - those with lots of money and those on a budget...but you know all that.

There is no such thing as a rebody in QLD any more. There is an ICV with excemptions.

Either way as per the list body will be supplied with relevant paperwork. If I do get interest I will also help out with registration. It really isn't that hard, just paperwork.

But this thread isn't about how I am going to register them, it is about if people would pay for them on the understanding they can be registered as per other current market buggies.

If People can't afford $30k to build a Buggy then I suggest they don't build a Buggy .. simple really. Unless you are doing everything yourself it is gunna cost $30k plus, that is life.

And ?? WTF does that have to do with anything in this post ?

I am guessing you are suggesting that $15K is a rip off and I am making heaps of $$$$ out of it yeah ??

If so how about I give you $15k and you land one on my door step in RHD with Paperwork ??

I took the $$$ discussion to be Brad saying it takes around $30k to build a reasonable buggy here, while that black one cost about $50k USD to build over there, presumably cos of the spec (I mean what are they - 20"s on the back ???).

Manxter 2+2 standard kit is listed as $7700 USD, so 15k AUD landed is prolly about right.

Since you like Maths so much ...

7,700.00 USD = 11,554.10 AUD Kit Price

Plus GST @ 10% = $12709.51 AUD
Plus Custom Fees say $500 depending on how many we get and what split it is = $13209.51
Plus cost of Freight for Container, say $4000 total split say 4 ways if we could fit 4 in so $1000 ea = $14209.51
Plus getting RHD upgrade, engineering paperwork and delivery ithin Australia all that for $700.49 AUD

Damn I didn't even add any profit in I just want a manxter and thought a few might be cheaper than buying one, besides it is gunna take a day to clear customs for a container so might as well get a few in.

I am not suggesting anything at all relating to fair/unfair, profit/loss, etc.
I was simply pointing out what the exchange rate is currently.
Only a few months ago the Aussie dollar was worth about 95 cents on the USD. It has softened considerably since that time. Currencies and exchange rates are in huge flux at the moment and will likely not will be stable for quite sometime. That can make import buying a big adventure.

I quite like the look of the manxter, especially those sidepods!. In fact I have used it as inspiration for the rollbar design and sidepod modification to the sharpbuilt limo build.

But yeah the au $ has dropped a bit lately as you all know. I was going to get some gear from the US, and unfortunately left it too late, I'm not in a hurry, so will hold off an hope it goes back up a bit.

Imagine how light the container will be with just 4 kits.. The shipping people will probably think its still empty.

As a reference to the discussion about values and exchange rates, those forum members who have might have missed the following thread might want to review this:

We are all well aware that the aussie dollar has gone down the toilet.

Brad, don't do it. You have enough other crap on your plate already. You just need some ridilin for your ADHD.

Besides, I think a lowered street Iguana would look better.

How would I register them.. well let me see, submit the paperwork, get the engineer to sign it, get an inspection by some guy who is not an engineer but has a nice white shirt with a logo on it , pay some lady behind a counter some $$$ and then put the plates on with two screw in each. The sticker then shows up about 2 weeks later.

Is that what you wanted ??

All Manxter I bring in will be able to get full road registration in ALL STATES.

I was just wondering how the process is all going. if the Aussie dollar wasn't so low I would be very tempted to be included on a group purchase/import.
