Whats the difference?

What is the difference between a 1600 & 2 litre 12 volt starter motor. Can I put a 2 litre starter motor in my 1600 gearbox?

The 2 litre uses a 228mm clutch and the ring gear teeth are recessed into the flywheel. I am not sure but I think you would have to do a bit of clearancing to fit it amd only then if you were going to use the bigger flywheel. We use the 1800 flywheel & clutch when fitting the 1800-2 litre motore and use the standard 12v starter motor.

The diameter of the ring gears are the same, the starters are different because the 2 litre clutch is bigger.

You can bolt a 1700, 1800 engine up to a 2 litre box, but not vice versa,... which doesn't answer the 1600 question, I know.
