coil springs for rear suspension?
Has anyone used coil springs over their rear shocks before?
Supposedly there used to be a product you could use to put ontop of your rear shocks and adjust your ride height with it?
Has anyone heard of these or used them before.
Comments/thoughts?

do you mean in place of the torsion bars ?
Custom Vee Dub do a coil over shock but it is designed as a helper spring rather than an actual coil over replacement for the factory torsion bars.
They also use to do what was called "A 180 Kit" which fitted a coil spring to the spring plate / shock tower to gain extra ride quailty and replace
some of the torsion bar and allow a better spring rate.

what happened to the "A 180 kit" This may be the thing. Supposedly it used to be made back in the day but they no longer produce them.
So if it sat on the shock tower, it would sit above the shock absorber itself - these are adjustable?
im told you bolt it in over your existing shock absorber and that it can be adjusted.

yep, I've used "4 way" shocks with coil over springs..............but you dont use them to control ride height though.
Just get your torsion bars adjusted you slack arse

mm nope the 180 kit went on the spring plate and up to the engine cage. I t was not for an on road car.
The coil over the shock thing you are talking about is a coil over shock which I have called a coil assist shock and there are still made and sold.
They are adjustable and will raise your road height. BUT as craig said you are better off adjusting your torsion bars.

i only want to go up about an inch. It was a shop that recommended this option. I'm in the middle of moving (house hunting at the moment with temp
accommodation) and i have no tools. Shop said this was a cheaper and good option.
Any thoughts on that? Do the coils do anything bad to your ride feel?

If you only want to go up and inch then the Custom Vee Dub Coil Overs will do that for you in the back of a Beetle. They will also stiffed your ride a
little bit.

do you know what they go for?
Is it a down grade? i have KYB gas shocks on the back at the moment. there isn't enough clearance to the bump stop and it can hit at times when
taking heavier corners, and the exhaust scraps down driveways (hence the rise - an inch will help)

see what these other things cost and will let you know - do you want a narrowed sway bar? will get a price and probably order today - 18mm.
