Erich Kircher (USCB): Rest In Peace

Erich Kircher (USCB), age 40, passed away on November 12.
Erich was an huge fan of early Beetles (owned a 48 and a 53), CB's, and VW's generally, and was extremely well regarded in the central and northern California areas
He owned KO 519, having imported it roughly two years ago. He and his wife Wendy did a magnificent restoration of the vehicle in a few short months.

While Erich may have not been well known here at Aussieveedubbers, he was very well known in VW circles in the US.
He joined AVD shortly before learning of his stomach cancer, and thus never really had the chance to participate as actively as he might have if he hadn't become ill.
If you have the time, read the Samba thread that was created in January 2008 about this remarkable individual. In post after post, the love and appreciation for Erich's life clearly comes through.
Erich Kircher needs your thoughts and prayers

Hi everyone, I just received a call from Tom Niedernhofer a few minutes ago to pass the word to me and his other friends that our buddy Erich Kircher passed away this morning at about 1 am from his illness. I have no other details or info about services as of yet, but I'm sure that the info will be passed around as the info is decided upon. Please remember Erich, his wife Wendy and son Karsten in your thoughts and prayers. Erich was a long time VW enthusiast in our hobby, who along with his brother Martin and family has built, owned and driven many old VWs. He was always quick to assist and advise others and would do anything to help an enthusiast or beginner out. Erich and Wendy were also the most recent recipients of the Common Gear Societys' "Heros of Antique Volkswagening Award" which only a select handful of VW enthusiasts have ever been awarded for selfless contributions back to our hobby. That's just the kind of guy Erich was. He will obviously missed by his close friends as well as anyone who ever met him. Kathryn and I love him and will always miss him and are thinking of Wendy, Karsten and Erichs' family. Rest in peace Erich! Bill Bowman

Age: 40 years, Erich Kircher passed away at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Devoted husband of Wendy Kircher of Rohnert Park. Dedicated father of Karsten Everette Karl Kircher of Rohnert Park. Loving son of Margarethe and Dieter Kircher of Petaluma. Dear brother of Martin Kircher (Elizabeth Armstrong) of Ventura, CA. Adored son-in-law of Maureen and Jack Parsons of Ukiah. Brother-in-law of Rebecca Miller and her husband John of Arkansas and uncle of Steven Miller. Erich loved being a classic VW enthusiast and was a wonderful man who was loved by all that knew him. He was employed with Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital as a Biomedical Engineer for over 10 years. He will be truly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at PARENT-SORENSEN MORTUARY AND CREMATORY, 850 Keokuk St., Petaluma, CA 763-4131. Memorial contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

The tributes written to Erich are very impressive and heartfelt. What a well thought of guy. Death took him long before it should have.
I was hopeful he could pull through his stomach cancer, but apparently was discovered at a point where it was too far advanced to reverse the outcome.
This hobby has suffered a big loss and could use more people like Erich Kircher.
Rest in peace.

Steve
