Pomme moving to sydney should i bring my vee dubs???? Feedback please...
Hey all ...Great site ....I decided to register as i am hopefully moving out to Sydney from London next year, and i am in a bit of a dilemma..Do i
bring my vee dubs with me ...or leave them behind......Any advice ..../views would be great....
1. 1951 ragtop split window bug, slammed and narrowed on genuine 4.5 and deep 6 fuchs..
2. 1964 21 window samba in bare metal....But totally solid and rot free again slammed on gas burners.????
Is it worth the mega high tax to import these guys ,...thanks in advance all...

Can't leave your cars behind mate...especially such sweet rides!
I can't comment on taxes applicable but I thought if they were you daily driver (or something along those lines) that they were tax exempt? Hopefully
someone on here is more clued up....but I say don't leave them behind.

That is correct, if you owned the car in the UK for more than 12 months it comes to Australia as part of your personal items so you dont need to pay
import duties and other expenses.

as an ex pat who left his baby at home, bring em down I am sure the tax is in your favour if you have had the car for 12 months back home. It was in
1990, but do check, as i am sure you will.

heres all the rules and regs you need. you MUST comply with all the rules or they will crush your ride on the dock side!! (no joke)
you are only allowed 1 personal import every year, the van might come over as spares, a different catagory and different tax bracket, but still it
will be cheaper on the transportation costs, everything in on 40' container!!
have a look here.
http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/vehicle_regulation/bulletin/importing_...
its not easy, but if you want your ride it will be worth it! (yours should be easier than mine due to the age of the car and its "spares") you will
need reciepts for eveything, tax, insurance, fuel if poss, purchase, all new parts are charged at a higher rate than s/h parts, get reciepts from
shows for all that NOS you got, YOU have to prove its second hand, they only need to say its new and "kerching" the tax goes up!!!
