Type 3 door alignment help
my driver side door sits to far to the front of the car. it has been like this for a while because there is a noticeable mark in the side of the door
where it hits the fender when fully open. the front of the door also rubs badly on the fender edge when opening/shutting door.
how do i adjust the hinges to fix this?
i am also having the same sort of problem with the rear hatch hinges...?

What's the gap like at the B pillar? Has the front guard been pushed back a bit? Is the door opening a bit too far? If the limiter rubber stop
(inside the door) has broken away, the door can open that bit further and crease the skin by hitting the guard.

D.H, it is a Early, 65 to be precise. the hinges are held on to the car with 3 screws as far as i can tell (the 3 black plastic caps near each hinge
on the body)
the front gap - it actually touches when fully closed!


rear gap considerably bigger than front but not huge

and when it is open fully - you can see the indent it has made on the chrome trim

It looks like the door has been thrown open too far and probably bent the hinges/hinge mounts,the front guard looks to be sitting in place on front
scuttle. you may have to remove the door and relocate the mountings on the body or door,depending on which are bent. The other option is to move the
front guard forward. cheers Les

If the top and bottom gap looks reasonable (door and rear guard looks to be lined up) it might be better to start by lowering the front guard about 3
mm and only tighten the top bolt. Don't undo the ones along the quarter pannel or you may lose the bonnet alignment unless it's sitting high along
the scuttle. Then move the bottom forward a few mm and tighten and see how it goes for opening. Did you take the trim board off the inside of the
door to check the rubber on the opening llimiter which will prevent the door openong too far?
Just did a check on my Notch and the gap at the B pillar varies from about 3.5mm down the vertical bit widening to 4.5mm down the rear guard section.
The front is fairly even 5 to 5.5 mm as is the gap top and bottom.

no i havent checked that... could be part of the problem but im sure the door is sitting to far forward. can i change the position of the door instead
of the guard?

here they are
front gap varies between 2mm and 1mm near front guard
B pillar gap varies between 6mm and 8mm(near rear fender).

the gap where the door curves near windscreen is about 5mm - is this normal?

The windscreen one seems about right so it looks like you need to move the guard forward a bit. Loosen all the screws, move the guard forward at the
door gap to get that about 5mm gap and tighten the screws here first. Then work forward and see how it looks where it blends with the front apron.
If it looks a bit longer the bumper may have had a bit of a push and shortened the quarter panel a couple of mm. They aren't too strong in this
department!

yes! that must be why! i know that it has had some sort ding at the front
because there is a it of damage in the front apron and it has a replacement fender (but on the other side!) Weird!!
I will give that a try!
