Wilowbank Motorkhana

Well,,, what can i say??? One would think that a 1760kg kombi, jacked up high, with fairly soft suspension & a front-end that doesn`t grip much with a rear-end that grips heaps would be the ideal set up for bitumen motorkhanas right???

:-)

hee hee,,, just kidding,,, (Obviously)

anyways, i had a ball,,, however ,,,the chief stewards did call me over for a little chat after the first event tho,,, seems they had some slight concerns with regards to all the lurching & leaning & hopping & wheelstanding going on, for some reason they had visions of it tipping over :-) I just couldn`t understand that part :-),,, what were they on about??? surely a v8 powered Kombi duel cab ute leaning over at 45deg angles with right pedal mashed to the floor lifting & twisting up over a foot off the ground isn`t too over the top is it??? ... really??? :-)

so yeah well,,, i took it easy in the next few runs & only waited till it was lined up "nearly" straight ahead before i tromped it & wheelstanded over to the finish garage :-)

It really wasn`t that much fun ...altho i was giggling like a little school girl for a while there :-)

I tried to find the people who were video-ing & asked around for others to put some of it up on you-tube,,, so keep an eye out, it should be pretty ugly to watch,,, the thing lurched & hopped & twisted up so much it cracked my windscreen :-)

Yeah the box & axles are all holding up pretty well,,, i wasn`t giving it curry tho,,, it has a fair bit of grip so i was just easing into things, but the Autocross the weekend before gave me a fair bit of confidence that the box & axles are going to last more than a month now :-)

Cracked your windscreen? That normally only happens with cars that transmit a lot of torque through a tail shaft, which causes the body to flex in the opposite direction. Your kombi clearly doesn't have any driveline torque going through the body. Clearly you were just driving like an idiot :)

Hi Bix & sorry yes the motorkhana was with the HSCCQ, they`re a great bunch of people & well organised... & the Autocross was with IWMAC & the WRX clubs

vwrallycar,,, not sure if i`ll have it ready by then,,, i have way too many other cars to work on & i barely get more than a hour or 2 worth of work per week on the buggy,,, i still have to sort out a decent reverse gear for it yet,,, Quaife do a reverse box with slippery diff but it`s """CHUNKS""" of money... im going to try a 6v stater motor hooked up to the chain drive & run 24v through it for the moment & yeah i know it will fry it`s guts out :-)
