Insurance Companies
Hey evryone,
Tyring to get my freshly painted '69 squareback comprehensively insured at the moment, but unfortunately nobody wants to touch it!
Before you start, im 28, rating 1, never claimed, licenced for 11years.
NRMA will do market value only (which is a lot less than that car is worth) and shannons wont touch it because even though its in a secured unit
complex garage, this doesnt classify as a 'lock up garage'.
AAMI wont go pre '70.
Who does everyone use to insure their pre 70's cars???

i use suncorp, dont forget that a market value is what your car in your condition, milage, accesories etc would sell for on the market place, if you
can supply documentation of what others are selling for then you should be able to get a fair market value for it if something was to happen.

I use Shannons and have been great and best price for my Fastback.

I love 242HP sleepers. 
How many sets of lights does it take a $229k Carrera S to learn?

Seems to be only Shannons and NRMA vintage veteran and classic car insurance,,,
NRMA V V classic car insurance IS NOT the same as the NORMAL NRMA....
1800 646 605 is their number

i started out with shannons but suncorp nearly halved the cost of insurance with my karmann ghias so.......

Haha, that statement makes a lot of sense when it's typed on a forum
But I'm actually interested in this too. I mean who else is there apart from Shannons for insuring classics? Lee mentioned NRMA Vintage & Veteran
which I'd never heard of and others have mentioned Suncorp might be ok, but I'd only go with them if they will agree on a value. You'd think
there'd be more options hey.

I was with Suncorp for 11 years then they refused to insure my Kombi when it was 30 years old unless I accepted THEIR "market value" which at the
time was $750 for a twin cab ute.They refused to insure for agreed value on any of the cars that I owned,as they were "to old".They lost all my
insurance premiums when I transferred everything from house to lawnmower over to Shannon's.Whats the point in insuring something if you can't place
an agreed value on it??? A guy with some flash $100000 ford p.o.s. that I was speaking to the other night is using Vigil (sp) as Shannons wouldn't
insure his car for more than $65000 so go figure.I think if the lock up gargage or lack of it is the problem there must be some way around
it....otherwise try NRMA???

Quotes so far range from $156 to $360.
Companies that are willing to insure include: RACQ, NRMA, Suncorp. All these use market value, except Suncorp, where you can specify an agreed value,
but they will default to the cheapest of either market or agreed to replace your car.
Companies that arent: AAMI : (Too old), Shannons: has to be in a single lock up garage (not a unit complex secure garage), Just Cars (too old)
Havent tried NRMA vintage & veteran yet.
If all this detail ive put up somehow contraveens forum policy, feel free to delete it.

Did the Agreed value go Up or Down???
Is the Suncorp for classic or old cars???
or just ordinary insurance??

I use Shannon's and it doesn't have to be in a lock-up garage. I don't even have off-street parking (grrrrr). Admittedly my car is a '76. And I
have agreed value but no salvage rights. Maybe it's not a classic car policy, only a regular one??

I was just reading the NRMA classis vintage veteran car policy-
NO Excess if your car is stolen..
If Your car is a write off -
and Your car was built before DEC 1980
then You get to keep the wreck...

mine are sum insd with suncorp, value stayed the same as shannons but price went down, dont forget you can negotiate a little as well, shannons do
automaticly give you salvage rights but you can pay a little extra with suncorp and get it too.

Shannon's must have different rules depending on where you live. Mine are both insured with them and I don't have a lock up garage, just a car port
and 'on my property'. Seems very strange.

GIO....$259 per year for $5500 cover and I get to keep the car if it is written off.
Standard excess not one of those pumped up ones.
Maybe be more expensive for driver of less years.
