Lowering a T5?


After 24 years with a T3 Trakka camper conversion, I am considering a T5 camper. My problem is the height of my garage door.

The T3 is 1940mm or thereabouts, and just makes it in.

I understand the standard height of a T5 is 1965mm and a 2006 T5 Kea camper is 2050mm.

Does anyone know how much a T5 can be lowered - reasonably - and how this might be for a van that goes on dirt roads occasionally. We are contemplating a longish trip within a year or so and are thinking about the vehicle. It has been suggested in the family that driving round Australia in a 1982 T3 could be asking for trouble!!

Dave there is a lowering spring set by 35mm....go the t5...make sure its a diesel...will make your trip a real pleasure.....vast improvement on a t3 aircooled......6sp auto is good too cheers steve

35mm isn't enough, darn it!!

Since posting my message I'd seen UK products that lowered the T5 30 or 35 mm springs but couldn't see any here.

Find out if its fitted with 17in rims....fit the later 16in rims and do a tyre change ..will get you a bit more space between room and garage

KW make a coilover that allows for around 65mm of lowering

Depending on the construction of your garage, it may be much simpler to raise the height of the garage door!

or maybe its a great excuse to get a new shed for the back yard..
you know something small, about 12m x 21m with 2.8m doors that should fix ya problem..
room for a new beer fridge n big tv as well as the T5
you'd never want to go into the house again.. :smilegrin:
