Kitcar with C/Buggy running gear

I will add in the new sections at the end of the thread about the ügly""kitcar that I just collected...

My original thread ...

I seem to recall seeing this previously, but cant recall the details.

Does anyone know the history of the buggy, the way these things move around someone on here probably knows about it. Does the kit have a name ?

Reason is that we have just bought it for the kids to learn to drive in and am bound to be asked what it is - much like when people would ask if I had built the Country Buggy myself...

Any info appreciated.

Peter

Yeah I know, not the prettiest but thankfully the kids (7yr - 12 yrs) arent fussy about what they drive around the property (yet !!) I think it will look a bit better when the fuchs go on..

And I'm sure the registered car trailer won't go astray. ;)

He had this for sale for months, and I tried to track down some info. What we came up with from the terrible pictures I had access to is its either a one-off, or an modified half-door DRB Sabre.

Does it have a steel-reinforced glass body? Beetle or Type3?

Buggy

Just destined for the property at this stage and if it survives the kids then who knows...

I think of all the toys - the wife hates the trailer the most, due to what it brings home.

a friend of mine has one on the roof of his father's shed. they take triumph tr7 pop up headlights, a cortina windscreen and falcon lights. sure it look ordinary in that state...but my bros ratty country buggies look a lot worse. a reckon a decent set of wheels and a proper chassis under it would make it look pretty reasonable. and as far as I'm concerned it's a darn sight better than a karlita.

Christmas came early...

Well I went and picked up the latest ebay purchase this morning and didnt know what to expect as hadnt been able to speak directly with the owner and had some crappy photos. Given the amount of dollars, I wasnt expecting too much.

First impression was that it was better than the photos, tyres were good, glass was good, no cracks in gel coat etc.

Anyhow when I popped the lid I saw it was a 1600dp with twin carbs, 009 etc which isnt seized - great I thought as the add wasnt specific and and any engine was going to be a bonus.

Then I looked past the engine and something was not right with the gearbox - expecting that it would be a beetles - yep there were the familiar reduction boxes from the c/buggy. So I quickly ran to the front of the buggy with everything crossed and there as nice as new was the country buggy front end.

So am very happy with the purchase now...

and shame on all of you who judged by looks alone..

Peter

lucky score with the running gear, you cant use the body as an anchor though because it will probably float:lol:

I don't reckon it's all that bad. With a bit of re-shaping I can see a nice Lotus Elan-esque emerging.

Or am I just nucking futs?

It gets better....

It gets better - I just pulled the head off the motor from the buggy as my ute has a dropped valve and I just assumed it would be a 1600dp so I could swap it over. I had a good 1500sp that I had put in the buggy - but to my surprise they were 94s and all was in good condition so am very happy with the ugly little bastard now.

Country Buggy running gear, beautiful body and now a 1916...

All good.

Peter
