Retractable seat belt install..
Does anyone have some pictures of their retractable seat belt install in a type 3 (I have a 71 square but on any model would be good to see!). My old
seatbelts have had it and thought it might be a good time for a upgrade but was told by a repco guy it can't be done because of space issues with the
lower mount??

yeah space is an issue , i drilled out plug welds that hold bracket on internally and moved it further forward so belt unit could fit, then rewelded.

They can be mounted on an offset bracket with 2 holes. One which allows the bracket to be bolted firmly to the original lower mount and the other for
the new retract unit. The brackets were available years ago and were made from around 3mm thick plate. Haven't got the car now as it was sold in
the late 90s. so I can't supply photos. It was a 1970 Notch.

I think Klippan have brackets available,i spoke to some one at Klippan a while back in relation to type 1 inertias and he said that VW brackets were
available but I never followed it up.You may have to contact Klippan direct abd not muck around with Repco or other resellers. Cheers les

Is this mod for the front or rears or both?, as i have to replace all the belts in my 72 notch before i can register it.

I recently had my beetle blue plated for mods and made up a bracket to fit front retractables. It was simply a piece of 50mm wide by 3mm thick piece
of bar cut to the right length (approx 120mm from memory) with a hole in each end. If you file the corners round and give it a coat of paint it will
look tidy. Just make sure that the seat belt inertia reel is mounted exactly verticle otherwise they can lock up

Adsman technically you should have had an engineers certificate for this modification as it is a major safety item.

The engineering certification is part of the blue plating process in QLD. Or have I missed something? The engineer who did the inspections and blue
plate made drawings of what has been done for all the mods.

Sorry mate in NSW we have to have a separate engineers certificate to cover any modifications to vehicles prior to registration. Cheers Les

question for someone is Victoria different again?

Thanks everyone.. I've sent klippan an email so I'll let you know if they still have those brackets available. If not looks like I'll just have to
go the static ones again.

Here is a couple of pics of the Klippan brackets I used for my beetle. I will probably paint them or use the same vinyl that is on the pillar. Makes
the job easy and lifts the reel up so it doesnt foul on the rear seat frame.
