| 6v to 12v conversion

 Hi all,

I am a newbee here and I am wanting to buy a 1967 or earlier bug. Most of them are 6v and I wanted to get some idea of price for converting them to
12v and what are the pros and cons of doing so.

 Any advice is appreciated,

 Cheers,
 Blair.

depends if you want to change the flywheel as well you would have to pull the engine

you need a generator or alternator, starter, coil, wiper motor, reguator, light globes, battery, 12volt flywheel if yr changing it and possibly a
clutch and pressure plate as the size will be different

Its a piece of string answer

If you are doing it yourself the MINIMUM would be battery, bulbs, generator, coil and ???

You could get out for say $200??

Drive in / out of a shop and get everything done - $1500 at least

unless ur getting a bug thats been in storage for eons u probably wont encounter that many still 6 volt

most of them have been converted by now
6 volt batterys have been getting harder to get and big $$ for ages and replacement bulbs can be fun to track down not to mention gennys and
regulators which tend to die after 40+ years

I have come across several that are still 6v... whilst I would like to keep them original as possible, 6v is a pain in the butt. So I would like to do
the conversion 100% properly and not cut any corners...

i have a 65 type 3 that is still 6v. i am thinking about converting it but it does seem like a lot of trouble as everything is working fine anyway.
the only reason i want to convert is so i can run a 12v stereo...

the previous owner looked like they were running 2 batteries (using a 12v for the stereo system and 6v for everything else)...
 is this alright to do???

 are there any other options?

 cheers
