lowering front of 67/68 bug

I am in the process of buying a 67/68 bug. the front at thr moment looks like a 4x4, it sits so high. are these bifficult to lower and how much can you drop them without a narrowed beam? From what i have read on here the back end is quite straight forward, hope the front is too.

cheers:cool:

Lowering the front end is more involved than the back - since it's not factory adjustable the usual way is to cut the beam and weld in an adjuster. How much you can drop depends on things like rims and tyres, but you can usually go down 2 inches no probs. You can also put on dropped spindles that lower about 3 inches on a standard beam, it's a bit more expensive way to go and usually ends up widening things so rims and tyres come into it again.

67 and 68 bugs are a bit different in the front beam (similar design, but different dimensions) so be sure of what you've got before buying any of the parts for it.

Yes, all beetles should be lowered about 2 inches minimum
IMHO

as they all look too High for Me....

the 1967 model beetle was made from 1st Aug 1966 to 31st July 1967.. most are Australian made..
usually have sloping headlamps...
push button door handles.
fuel gauge was seperate.
hard plastic dash knobs

the 1968 model beetle was made from 1st Aug 1967 to 31st july 1968
usually have flat headlamps..
fuel gauge was in the speedo
flat rubber dash knobs

Here is a pic of a 1963-67 Beetle -

the front torsion bars need to be cut and an adjuster fitted to both bars in the centre...

the front suspension needs to be completly be pulled out and apart....

the adjusters for a 1967 and 1968 are slightly different..

the beam does NOT have to be narrowed..
