| Neptune Petrol Stations

Further to the other threads, I have found a photo of the former Neptune petrol station at Lane Cove. This one is dated around 1960.

I don't have any info on exactly where this was - does anyone recognise it?

.. judging by the slope ofg the terrain, could it be the one that is now a hand car wash? Just near the Pacific Highway/tunnel etc intersection?

This is a more modern-looking Neptune service station, somewhere in Perth but I don't know exactly where.

It had an 'Austin House' dealership included in the premises, together with a 'Traveluxe Lubritorium' at the far end. I also like the Chrysler
Royal billboard in the distance.

This is a shot of the Lubritorium. There's something you don't see any more!

Note the Austin A70 Atlantic convertible on the hoist...

 One nice looking Servo....

there are still petrol ststions in the country with gravel driveways.... ??

one in Aberdeen was so bad You needed a 4wd to get thru them...

and one a few years ago in Scone was a shell...
it had bitumen but the holes were up to 1/2 a metre and 75mm deep... it closed a few years ago...

 Hi

I remember as kid doing the yearly pilgrimage from Sydney to Queensland to see the relatives in the FB Holden. My dad was a stickler for regular 1000
mile oil changes, we would always need to have the oil changed while we were away on holidays.

Maybe the demise of the lube bay was brought about by longer service intervals on modern cars.

I believe the majority of service stations that had the bowsers on the foot path and the cars just pulled over
into the gutter ... have gone...

Last one I saw was at GRETA NSW...
 maybe Branxton too..

used to be one at Aberdeen..

 and many small country towns...

How they got permission to do that I don't know... lol

I suspect that You didn't get the tyre pressures, water,or windscreen cleaned at those servos.... lol

I always preferred to fill the tank Myself...
so, I would drive into a servo and start filling Myself.... lol

I think some of the attendants thought it was a crime if you filled up Yourself... or even touched their Bowser.. lol

The one at Aberdeen is still there, I filled up there just last Saturday, still has the handle on the side of the bowser you have to turn up after you
remove the nozzle. The old lady who came out of the shop said she had a new bowser to go in just as soon as she saved enough money, the real surprise
was that she took plastic, oh yeah, the gravel drive is a real ripper.

Hmm, maybe if ancient servos still exist in Aberdeen, perhaps old VW dealers in the area might be waiting to be rediscovered.

There was never a VW dealer at Aberdeen, but these ones were close by:

 Scone:
D.J. Hogg and Co, 68 Kelly St (1956-1960)
T.H. Evans and Co, 68 Kelly St (1961-1965)
Hunter Valley Machinery Co, New England Highway (1965-1968)
Hunter Valley Machinery Co, Cnr. Muffett & Sherwood Sts (1968-1977)

 Muswellbrook:
Auto Service Pty Ltd, Maitland Rd (1959-1963)
Hunter Valley Machinery Co, 104-106 Sydney Rd (1963-1977)

If these places still exist, who knows, there could be ancient forgotten VW parts hidden away in the roof still. Worthwhile checking???
