My 73 Beetle Karmann Cabriolet

Hi all,

This is a great forum for all VW owners and admirers to communicate and share the love!

This is my pride and joy. She is a 73 Beetle Karmann Cabriolet and I have owned her for 2 years now. The car was originally imported to NSW from California in the late 80's and sat around for a further 10 years before the owner decided to restore her. After a full body off restoration, the original owner sold her. She was lovingly maintained by a passionate VW nut for a further 8 years.

I drove her from Sydney to Melbourne when I purchased her. The car ran like a dream and never missed a beat, pretty much cruised most of the way sitting on 100 clicks. The only hiccup I had was when my 10 y.o. daughter (who came along for the nostalgia of the road trip in a VW) mistakenly grabbed the convertible roof release lever thinking it was a handle - the roof lifted at one corner and scared the beejeebers out of us both. Nothing like fresh air! No damage done however.

The car is in superb condition. Colour is Chrome Gold and is completely original other than for the Empi wheels. She runs a stock and fresh 1600 TP that was rebuilt by a Porsche mechanic using genuine German VW parts. She continues to be very well looked after as well as being regularly driven.

Being a new member. I look forward to chatting with many other likeminded VW fans. Cheers!

Do you have any bigger pictures of your Cabriolet?

Looks nice from what I can see there.

Hey all,

Thanks for the comments on my Cab.

VWCool - yes, it is the car that you have no doubt seen at shows in Sydney. The guy I purchased her from was a regular Club VeeDub Sydney member.

Desh - I have larger photos that I can send to you if you are interested, perhaps PM me with your e-mail addy. Had troubles actually shrinking them down to a lesser file size so I could post them with my thread. Camera was set to highest resolution so I will have to adjust this next time I am taking pics

Hellbus - it is a RHD, it was converted by the original Australian owner.

Thanks all again. Cheers
