New one to Vic
Hey Everyone,
Finally after waiting a while I've decided to sell my Jeep (although I do love it to death) and get myself a beetle for a while. I've always wanted
to restore an oval so I figure while I'm young and have no family I might as well get it out of the way. The aim is to always go back to a Jeep as I
could never give up 4x4ing for good.
I was just wondering what year I should look at? I would love an oval but there just isn't many of them around in half decent condition, plus my dad
(who used to work with beetles in his day) said I should get something without drum brakes... Spoil all my fun. But I shouldn't complain since he is going to help me.
Is there any internet site that has the lo down on each year and what each car has or doesn't have including pictures?
Thanks in advance.

Mine has drum brakes and the pedal is firm, the brakes work quite well, sure they aren't ABS but for what they are they are more than useable as an
everyday car.
If you understand what you brakes will and will not do, you should not have any nasty suprises.
If you drive like someone who drives like an idiot, hard on the brakes and racing around the streets, expecting them to stop on a dime, well they
won't but for normal driving under normal circumstances they are fine.
If you did get a car with drum brakes and you wanted discs, I believe you can upgrade to the brakes from a super bug,

Well that's really interesting, thanks. Generally speaking I am a fairly normal driver... my brakes all ways seem to get a squishy feeling
to them on my cars so I never brake hard anyway as I just don't think they'd stop. That's even straight after I've had them replaced. Of course
the few times I have needed to brake hard (ie: car pulling out in front of me) the brakes have always worked fine.
I think dad was more concerned as well since when I first was looking for a beetle it was going to be my first car... he actually told me I wasn't
allowed to get one as he didn't think I'd be safe enough in it, I ended up with a VP Commodore. I'm sure he wouldn't mind now, specially since I
own a Jeep and after all... aren't they like bbqs just waiting to happen... or at least that's what I've been told by nearly everyone.
I'll just have to have a look around and see whats available.
