Tried to help out a seller on Ebay and got a rude reply

Hi

There is a beetle on for sale Ebay at the moment, it has some strange information in its details, so I sent this message tying to help with the sale. Link to the item, http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200301772024&_t...

==========

Dear jasonstv,

Hi

Nice car. Your car is not a Superbug, Superbugs have a more bulbous front, McPherson strut front end and the spare tyre lays flat.

I think it may be a 1500 Beetle, it doesn't appear to have the ventilation grille behind the side 1/4 windows. It may even be an earlier model than 1971, check the 3rd digit on the chassis number, 71 would be a "1", 70 would be "0" etc

1850 is an unusual motor size, you need to get more accurate information on that.

Good luck with your sale,
Steve

======

This is the replies I received. I guess I should just leave F wits to fend for themselves

hi steve

thanks for your input into our superbug for sale
it is a superbug the 3rd digit is a 1 the car was made in 71. the engine is a oversized 1600 now about an 1850.

so next time you have an urge to give input maybe you should NOT

- jasonstv

and

"Dear 1302steve,

My motor has been modified to what would be the same as a 1800.

- jasonstv"

Steve, some people can't be told.

I had a similar reply only worst from some dick heat selling a split Kombi/Caravan cross as a genuine Westfalia, said he even contacted the factory and had chassis numbers checked to prove it.

Hers a tip.

74 1300, the "1" on the chassis number probably cannot be read correctly, Looks like a 4, so if you buy it make sure the paperwork matches the actual Chassis no otherwise you will have no proof of ownership.

I suspect it is a formally rusty and now "repaired" rear quarters 74 1300 Beetle.

I also bet that becuase the body trim is close to the crease on the swage line, as this moved up with the larger rear window upgrade in 1972.

Owner does not know what he has, so I hope the buyer does.

Cheers,

David

Hi

It has the early 1500 style dash, so it must be a 1300 or 1500 Beetle, it doesn't have the 1/2 moon vents behind rear 1/4 widows either. The tailights and deck lid are from 73 or later L bug.

His wife also owns a club registered bug, so they must be in a VW club.

The motor size is strange, its probably a 1641 and the size has grown in his mind.

I thought I was very polite and was only trying to help, I hope who ever buys it takes along someone who knows about VWs.

good eye Steve, its between 6/70 and 11/70 but owners know everything

i dont bother with stuff like that anymore
most ppl are ok, a guy had a nice 76 bug up the other other week and i could tell by the VIN and engine number he;d grabbed the rego papers for an EK honda civic, he was really appreciative for it being pointed out

yet others are like this guy and another guy who spacked out and crapped on in a similar manner
altho he did reply later profusely apologising and gave me his number as he wanted to apologise over the phone
i too can vouch for the frustration of time wasters and tyre kickers when selling a car especially online

I just sent him two emails telling Him why its NOT a super bug regardless of the engine cover and rear tail lamps..
1500 air cleaner - no flowthru ventilation.. etc...

he states it has a 1600 engine... then says its an 1850??
or an 1800???

I send a lot of info to people trying to sell beetles or beetle parts on E bay and the majority are grateful...
although many don't change the wording..lol

the 1976 fuel injected air conditioned beetle on E Bay a couple of weeks ago- She said thats what it says on the rego.. ??

Resprayed!

The dashpad may have been removed and never replaced. No Chrome trim on the glovebox?

High back seats only came in on "T" profile seat runners on the floorpans.

Still think it is a 14 1300.

1500 BEETLE -

I don't think it ever had a dashpad
as it hasn't got the crescent shaped ventilation behind the side rear windows or inside either...
its NOT a super - have a look under the front bumper
the body on a SUPER goes straight across -
Non Supers from side to side to down at the middle..
and they have a round metal plug in the front valance...
Supers Do Not...
NOT a SUPER.. not anything after 1970 as no ventilation pieces...

1500 beetle

Joel,
but a beetle made between 1st August 1970 and 31st december 1970 are actually 1971 VW model year cars...

as the VW year goes from 1st august to 31st july each year.. [after 1955]

anyway its definately NOT a super - well the front valance and guards are Not froma super... lol

then the rear guards and engine cover are from a super..
lol [but they are easy bolt ons]

I wonder if its a bitzer - South African beetle with 4 stud wheels...??

we'll probably never know.... lol

check out the window winder on the LHS door...

and the speaker...

so - can the window be wound down??? lol

If We knew if it had front disc brakes....
then it should be a 1500 beetle...
drums... maybe a 1300...??

interior lamp too far forward for a 1968 1500..

No diagnostic plug in engine bay for a later model.. like 74

twin port engine but a 1500 air cleaner??

its not a 1300 bug
they started after flow thro ventilation did plus this one has door arm rests and rear grab straps
1300 bugs didnt have these or the mounts for them

nothing more than a 70 1500 bug with a quick blow and go paint job and a rediculous price tag
