Ecuse my ignorance but is that a bus selector rod as well? And what gear box does this allow you to fit?

Yeah I need the matching bus selector rod aswell.
It will allow me to fit a late beetle gearbox (with the original nose cone swapped for the split screen type 2 unit) into an early beetle. Its more or
less a bolt on conversion.

Depends on what year oval you have, not all boxes need a bus nose cone.
Ring some of the sponors of this forum as you can get this part new, they are cheap.
Everything 36HP !

if your going to fit a IRS gearbox and trailing arms suspension then you wont need a nose cone
Aussie
there were 2 different types of front gearbox mounts brought in the Ovals depenending on which mount you have is wether you need the Kombi nose cone
or not

How can I tell which mount that I have? Is it dependant on the year of the car (mines a '56)? Are you saying that I may be able to bolt a later
gearbox straight in??

it would be easier to remove the box and weld in a later style mount
rather than trying to find a hens teeth Kombi nose cone if you have the wrap around front mount

Thats the later style mount not the wrap around
so a later gearbox 40hp tunnel type or 1500 swing axle will slip straight in
NO Kombi nose cone required

You have me thinking now Dave.....
My understanding was that all pre 1960 BUGS
needed the bus nose cone to make the later tunnel trans a bolt-in.
Other wise the shift rod will be too high, using the bug one.
The 1960 BUG has a different, "wrap around" mount as you say,
and will not bolt in without some fab/welding....unless you re use the bug wrap around mount??????? (testing memory)
Converting early buses is another story,
because some used a round rubber mount on the end of the nose cone snout,
but near the end of the 1950s, they used a conventional mount befor going to the tunnel trans.
They were the first to use the later tunnel type trans(1959, when bugs still had split case).
So perhaps some one can confirm or clear up what cars had what.

I was under the same understanding as you Dave. People that I have known who have done this conversion have always had to weld in a new mount, use a
Split nose cone or used an adaptor which only allowed a solid mount.

as far as i know and have tried you only need the Kombi nose cone with the wrap around front mount
I have fitted a few with the mount as per above its the same as the later style
as i said above theres dosent seem to be any logic to the wrap around mount they appear to be random in different year models up to when the tunnel
gearbox came in

The wrap around mount is listed to suit cars up to 59 , i've never seen them in cars over early 56 but i'm guessing other countries may have used
them later.
