Tire Questions
Hi
The Beetle Owners manual says the standard tires are:
5,60-15 4 PR
What does this translate to in modern tire measurements?
I want to keep stock tire size,

you can actually get new tyres like the old continental air rides which were on the 50's and 60's vws, i would say thats what is in the manual,
otherwise just go a 165 65 15 in my opinion

155 x 15 are the normal Radial ply tyres which were an option in later years..
they were 3% smaller than the 5.60 x 15 4 ply tyres
originally on beetles..
155 x 15 would only be available from antique tyres
I believe...
Most owners have been using 165 80 x 15 radials which are slightly larger in diameter than the 155s..
these were the size for type 3 VWs..

OK, shoot me quick as I'm back on my soap box, it's TYRES, please, not tires, went onto a web site the other day for a well known brand and they
were spelling it tires as well, thought it was a USA site at first but no, all Ausie (except the spelling), probably check my spelling before all the
rocks start landing.
I dream of a day when a chicken can cross a road without being asked for it's motive!

Donn i call them tyres too,thats how i was told it was spelt many many years ago even though the spell checker says its wrong

Humm I'm not sure how it's supposed to be written but in my owner's handbook for the Beetle it is "tires"

I frequent other forums where tyres is spelt tires...
metre is spelt meter
fibreglass is glass fiber etc..
mudguards can be fenders or wings..
Many tyre companies spell "TIRES"
as its part of their trading name etc..
I just hate slang... [and tyres being called "donuts"]
