Could this be a KG headlight ring?

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone recognises this headlight ring. It is from a lucas headlight and it could be the same a Karmann Ghia ring Maybe someone can measure one to be sure. The inner diammeter of the ring is 183mm across at the front and 198mm in the back. It is 25mm deep. It is also the same profile all the way around which I think make it different from beetles (or early holdens) which have a bulge in the ring.

Here a couple of pictures.

If it can be identified as a KG ring, I will need one of them.

Thanks in advance, Dino.

Hi Barls and Pod, you guys rock.

I think you have put me onto exactly what I need. I found some repro ones on Ebay that look great and I'll get the measurements checked and all will be good.

Thank you very much. Dino.

Morris Minor headlight rings were also very similar to ghias, I used some on a ghia about 15 years ago when I couldn't find any proper ghia ones. They would have almost certainly been Lucas, most british cars then followed the 'Prince of Darkness'.

Don't do it! Those headlight assemblies look absolutely wrong and horrible on a Ghia. Original ones are available from Vicsbahn, well worth the investment. They also show up a lot at swapmeets.

If its a Lucas its from a british car...

Leyland- Morris-Austin - BMC - Wolsley- Rover - Land Rover etc...

NEVER on a VW - always Bosch- Hella - etc
made in Germany..

the Karmann ghia headlamp rims may be common with old German cars like Mercedes- AutoUnion DKW -? etc..

they are NOT like any other VW headlamp rims..
that i have seen..
